First day and incredible all around.
Blockchains have brought people together from all over the world. Thinkers, doers, builders, holders, traders, dreamers...
In an age of tech being divisively (mis)used - it's so pleasant to see an alternative in action.

I disagree that it's amazing, and I don't think people have ever been completely anonymous online or in real life. It's a spectrum. Facts and opinions shouldn't be anonymous, they should be tied to reputations. I think internet culture will be improved with more verification.
The big problem with blockchain based identity is still... who gets to decide if you are real? Does being marked **less than real** strip you of your voice or online identity?
If we can achieve some level of trust re: identities without centralizing things, let's opt for that.

This is a fantastic publication: to the point and shifting the perspectives. I think you could also add that, with the data backed on the IPFS, your peeps provably remain your intellectual property, beyond space and time. Sound way to find plagiarism, I say. :)
I appreciate that very much @AnaelleLTD
Did you dare to imagine a public blockchain replacing some antiquated patent office? I think you're unquestionably on the right track.

I appreciate that. I've been MIA for quite some time, but hoping to jump back into writing sooner rather than later.

Back in rehearsal for a musical production! Good to be doing the things that make us feel alive. Whenever we question the meaning of life, I think we are really striving for what it actually feels like to be alive. I read that somewhere from some Joseph Campbell related thing.
Do what you do!

The onions I've found in Germany are generally much smaller (golf-ball to pool-ball size) than those found in the US. Anyone know why that is?
I've noticed this in the Philippines as well.
All the onions are "shallot-sized".
I haven't noticed a strikingly different flavor signature, though. (Unlike with tomatoes.)
When I grow onions, @cyan , they are normally about the size of a baseball before I pick them...

Sure, but while family and friends may reserve special situations, many times the fear of loss for oneself facilitates their actions, whereas love can be taken for granted endlessly. People likely react to fear of losing love quicker than they'll react for the sake of that love.
I can agree with the last line.
The others - I can't subscribe to as readily. Rapidity of decisions is tied to instinct. Hopefully, that's more often trumped by careful consideration in those close-knit groups.
Either way, I enjoy your quote posts and you sharing your thoughts.

January 24 will be a day immortalized in the history of cryptocurrency. #decentralize
Isn't every day immortalized in crypto... I mean, that's kind of what blockchains do... immortalize things...
Seriously, though, what's going on January 24th? What timezone?
Now, I haven't been on Twitter in quite a while, but this typo just caught my eye...
> Your Tweets *earned* 3,036 impressions ...
What kind of an editor doesn't catch that?
Clearly, it should read:
> Your Tweets *were allowed* 3,036 impressions ...
Am I missing anything? 🤔

I'm managing to fend off ads using one of those VPN to DNS apps (@Blokadaorg) and Google does relatively good job backing apps up (although I prefer and miss TitaniumBackup). So, I'll stay with the stock for now. I like the updates that are rolling out every once in a while 😊
You can do most backups with adb directly, right?
We're in this really weird point in tech where even the VPN-using, blockchain-embracing, open-source-promoting users are like - yeah, "Ok Google" go ahead and riffle through all my app data.
Librem 5 Phone, anyone? You go first.

If *encryption* is providing a false sense of security, then we here in the crypto space would be in for a very rude awakening... There is such a thing as a secure communication. That said, I am inclined to agree that, generally, "if they want your data, they can get your data".
@d2r2, sorry, that was meant as a reply to you.

...Or using Signal, TOR, and VPNs they subscribed to with cryptocurrency... The common man has a serious problem, and it's not that governments are "seeing" his data - it's that they are collecting it for later. We have no idea how it will be used (or who will use it) later.

Trust iOS was fully open source last time I checked (admittedly a few months ago, now). Trust for Android *was* open source, but switched to the open source code being a few versions behind the production version because of clones being (potentially?) used to rob users...
@vikmeup may be able to clarify a little for us.
I get that even being open carries some risks - largely due to centralized, fallible app stores and a lack of user education. But issues you can see are better than those you can't, imo.

I generally feel the same way. But since Opera has skin in the game I’m inclined to trust their implementation, rightly or wrongly. Is Trust is also closed?

I'm 13 days late to the party, but I'd also suggest Opera. I have Peepeth added to my screen, and Opera behaves like a native app now, as that icon can access only Peepeth website.
That's an excellent feature! I just don't know why people would use a closed-source wallet... I hope they achieve success with their implementation, but, on the other hand, I hope that success is accompanied by pressure to open up.
Black boxes don't mix well in this space, imo.

I was demoing Opera with Web3 wallet during the Hard Fork event in London.
What did people think about the closed source nature of the wallet?
(I think their product is responsive and overall good for the space - but I do strongly prefer open source when it comes to my funds... though I do understand browser wallets aren't for large sums...)

@bevan Howdy! I'm new to Peepeth, big fan of the idea. But immediately upon joining the first thing I see is the user Ziad in the New section. He is spamming a lot about Palestine and Jewish conspiracies. Kind of an uncomfortable introduction. Curious your policies on this

It's waaay better than most current Web3 clients, but there are still too many clicks, too much friction, too much "insider" knowledge needed to make it all work. But it's GREAT progress.

Heartbreaking that children have to live through the violence that a world full of adults around them cannot eradicate.
Imagine if those in power had to fund their wars out in the open - on a public blockchain...
Let's hope the future is full of unfunded violence.
