I think I followed a rabbit down some crazy hole. Seriously though, a Steemit friend mentioned it and I was curious so here I am to give Peeptopia a test drive. :)
Great way to arrive here! Haha

great pic! what's the temperature up there?
I was there in July, and it was super hot! In fact, some places in Scandinavia had the hottest summer in recorded history. Ironically, I didn’t find a single air conditioned place during my entire vacation.

Working on my portfolio website and could use some feedback. I'm using WordPress so I'm a little limited, but what do you think?
I like the simple layout, and the scrolling. Personally, I find all of the red a bit difficult to look at. But it’s bold and creative, and if you love it then go for it!

I generally prefer GPUs, but I have run more ASICs recently. The market for GPU mining is shrinking dramatically.
Ok, I figured ASIC was the way to go. Might have to build a small housing unit for them outside my house, with all these noise complaints lol.

In each community you can generally find individuals who are willing to help each other out, especially if you're just getting started. Any information or software that is good enough to give you a strong advantage over the general public is always secretive.
That makes sense

the last time I have been mining like in the late 2015, but at that time I think that it will be much more cost efficient to just buy the coin rather than mining equipment. so I quit mining and became long time investor that hoard coins :D
Maybe it is a better idea to just keep buying.

I have no clue and have never done any mining activity but have spoken to some of my friends who have done it and they keep telling that its not really profitable at the moment to invest in mining for the ROI you will get it ...
I was looking at it as a long term investment, hoarding coins for the next year or two.

3. I'd be willing to talk to you on Skype right now if you want; no charge. Getting into mining is a fairly large investment of time and money. It's better that you know exactly what you're getting into before you make that decision.
Thanks for your willingness to talk! What’s the times difference between us?
Replying to @jm9k (0xa7bd09daab3eb5ec96f04914d94c47681489d604)
2. There are plenty of YouTube videos that demonstrate the basics. There are tutorials out there as well of varying quality. Finding good sources of information can be tricky with mining since the communities that help you are also your competition.
That’s the conundrum I thought I was facing... a lack of sharing great knowledge because the more miners, the harder for those mining to discover a block, and make money.
So, it’s a lonely journey, and asking miners for help is like asking a salesman to be honest.
Replying to @jm9k (0xa7bd09daab3eb5ec96f04914d94c47681489d604)
1. No computer science degree is required. ASICs are generally not much more complicated than setting up a DVD player. GPU rigs are a little more involved, but if you can build a computer you can build a GPU rig.
That’s good news about the level of education not being an expert!
I have to back track for a second, because I didn’t realize a GPU had to be built. I knew it was somehow different than your everyday CPU, but yeah... do you prefer to use these GPU builds?

Haha no, that's child's play. So loud that you don't want to live in the same house as one 😂 At least in my experience.
Oh wow... that much noise from such a tiny thing 😳🙊
I wonder if there’s a easy way to silence them, like putting them inside an insulated box in the basement.
Replying to @Jaco (0x2be223f0241577a4fe25df90a7f94cf50721ac26)
The benefits of the GPU are that it will automatically switch to sell the most profitable hashing algo at the time - whereas with ASICS you are locked into mining a particular algorithm :) I don't know what is more profitable to invest in right now though!
That’s a cool feature! Thanks for hashing it out with me a bit :)

mining shitcoins is where it's at imo
I figured it’d have more payoff
Replying to @Jaco (0x2be223f0241577a4fe25df90a7f94cf50721ac26)
I used to do that, with automatic algorithm switching set up - but nowadays I just use nicehash to sell my hashpower and get paid in Bitcoin.. it's a bit less of a headache with hardly any maintenance needed 🙂 more consistent payout as well.
That’s super interesting! I haven’t heard of that before.
So, do you basically allow the company to access your processor (or whatever)? Probably slows your computer down, but do you get paid a half decent price for that?
Is there a way to make that super efficient, like asic
Replying to @stuart (0x5e586ff725a997c6fd35a9c90c1fc3aef19f4208)
you'll need to buy a power supply with it, antminer also sells those. Never actually used one, so can't talk about software, but it should be pretty straight forward to use. I'm sure if you search YouTube you should get plenty of tutorials.
Haha, well thanks!
Replying to @stuart (0x5e586ff725a997c6fd35a9c90c1fc3aef19f4208)
I might be able to answer 1 of these, that being the first. Asic miners don't require a degree in anything computer related to use. afaik antminer sells them to anyone with a gep up.
Thanks for the input! Are they pretty straight forward to use?
Like: plug in to wall/computer, download software, run software, join mining pool, link pool account to wallet, press go?
Replying to @jm9k (0xa7bd09daab3eb5ec96f04914d94c47681489d604)
Yes, lots of experience. Fire off your questions and I'll see if I can answer them.
Awesome! Thank you!
1. Can someone without a computer degree figure it out?
2. Do you know of any tutorial websites, or videos that walk people through it?
3. If I get stuck, would you be willing to skype or FaceTime with me? Of course, I’d pay for your time!

Yupp - only GPU mining though. Let me know if you have any questions.
Cool! I’ve found a couple of great tutorials on that. Would it be more beneficial to mine some obscure small coin, if using GPU?

Interesting thought. Big money always controls the outcome of big things, I’m just thankful a small group of Respectable Rebels forced the big players to recognize Bitcoin. If they didn’t take control, they would have lost control. We still win.
We’ve won either way! Haha. If big money and governments step in and take control, they will make crypto win for their own gain (and we win with them). If they don’t step in, we will win without them. Either way, the Peeple win this round. At least crypto peeple do, haha.

Australia is a must experience. Though so is everywhere else. Australia is a massive country whereas New Zealand is much more compact.
You’re too fair to everywhere else. Haha. Let’s be honest, some places are better. Lol
Australia has always been somewhat scary to me, though I wouldn’t hesitate to go. But 7 out of 10 of the most deadly creatures live there! Haha. You have to stay on the coast to live, lol.
