Early 80s stuff, pre Simpsons. I'm recycling it for the paper. I'm into papermaking and this was printed on good stock. Plus, it's a meaningful way to dispose of it.

This is my biggest grief with current blockchain games. Thats IAPs on steroids - the biggest cancer of mobile games already... would be nice to see blockchain used in mechanics, not just monetisation...
I first read that as, "That's IPAs on steroids," and I was going to ask which brewery!

Going to Taipei, Taiwan for business next week. I have an entire day to explore. Anybody been before and have a "dude, you gotta see this" thing?
You can also check out https://tw.forumosa.com/. It's gone downhill a bit imo, but you can still find some useful info there.

I think @d2r2 lives there, or near there? Try some bubble tea, heard it's interesting.
I'm in Japan at the moment, but southern and eastern Taiwan are the areas I'm most familiar with. Taipei not so much. Wherever you are, try the street food. If you make it to Kaohsiung, Pingtung, or Taitung Counties, then I can make some recommendations.

@d2r2 I have put my world map on ipfs! https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmXGDw8R5DEgZ4uNpTgU46hLEx8J2YdwL3d97Qmt3RKQHD Sometimes I draw world map like this by memory alone, without observing real map. This 2017 version tells me my fact is memorized fact & not accurate anymore.
I love it! And it popped right up. I think that's a good use of ipfs - straight link to static file without using ipns. I haven't played around with pinning(?) to files yet but I'll give it a try with this one after work. Cool!

This sounds great, as long as I can find out how to spend crypto where I am rather than going to some place because I can spend crypto there. Like so many other people, I travel all the time now and have no one home. So LiveOnCrypto would be more useful.
Just to clarify my comments, traveling sucks, so any way I can use crypto to make it better is good! Are you focusing on traveling for pleasure or just traveling? I'm interested in learning more about how I can use crypto for both, but I do the latter more frequently.

Yes, that's a crappy picture of the SF skyline back in the day, a scan of a damaged negative.

Yeah, I'm working on that now. I think I published the link that won't update properly. Still learning! I need to figure out how to use IPNS, the name system. It actually looks simpler than Apache in some ways, but that's apples and oranges. Very different way of doing things!

Cardano is at work trying to introduce/teach/train crypto in Africa. The idea is to bring banking to the little guy, who currently does not have access to liquidity etc. But sure, it could take a decade
I'm guessing the manifestations of supply-chain implementations of this technology are really hard to predict. It's going to affect the entire credit industry, hence rates, currency markets, jobs... If blockchain and crypto displace traditional credit, watch out.

@d2r2 Forgive me if this sounds like a noob question, does this mean you have to continually export/import your private key between toshi and metamask to post using the 2 different chosen channels? Or can you use the same address across both?
You import the private key once. Toshi remembers and does not even require a password, while metamask requires a password when starting the browser. I've had multiple mobile devices and computers with the same wallet open at once with no problem. Hope that helps!

Imagine a New Zealand that exports CBD oil & hemp yarn alongside manuka honey & merino. https://www.tvnz.co.nz/shows/sunday/clips/cannabis-inc #NZ could be the world leader in premium cannabis-based health products. Legalizing would improve lives much more than it'd harm them.

There will be a land grab for names. Greenfield means lots of names available. I think it is interesting to see tokens offer faucets and the creators hold a %. Whether they can find a use for the token is another question.
A land grab for token names? Interesting, if that's what you mean, like the grab for domain names. Could this 'grab for tokens' be an Achilles' heel of Ethereum?

That makes me want to spin up a VM and see why. Must be really annoying... Can you try to install the Brave browser? It has MetaMask built in.
Update: It's working now and I have no idea why. I checked Fedora, and it opened with a password only, and after that it worked on Mint. Doesn't make any sense to me at all, but there you go. Problem may not be solved, but it's fixed!

You enter your 12 word seed phrase once and you have to enter a password each time you restart your browser in MetaMask. Entering multiple times, something is not right. May need to contact MetaMask support.
Thanks. Good to know. I'll work on it.
Replying to @CallMeGwei (0x285bc660aa42b8effc6c60357cd4d8ca072be625)
WHOA?! This is not supposed to be a thing. You enter the recovery phrase ONCE and the wallet is saved and protected with a password. The password is all that should be required when you restart the browser and open MetaMask subsequently.
Yeah I had a feeling it wasn't by design. It's happening on both Firefox and Chrome. Odd. Latest Linux Mint. Fresh install of Chrome too so default settings intact. Imported phrase to Toshi and it works fine, no need to re-enter phrase.
Metamask question. Is there a way to set it so I don't have to enter 12-word phrase every time I open the browser on my desktop? I realize there's a security tradeoff but I keep very little money in the wallet.

Is it strange that I love paying to Peep? I’ll have to think more about this, but #micropayments make so much sense. It also incentivizes saying something meaningful. If only there were micro-micropayments to read posts, then there would be a real social media economy.
Agreed. I pay yearly for Email, storage, and hosting. Perhaps some day we'll see ETH-based solutions for these services allowing for #micropayments and decentralization.

But, isn’t the persistence and decentralized nature of the blockchain the difference with other “ordinary” kinds of platforms like Twitter? I have been assuming that the whole point was for the permanence of blockchain to pressure a higher level of seriousness & quality of posts.
I agree, at least ideally. But in reality, this space will have all the sparbage of Twitter etc. The difference to me is not impermanence vs permanence, it's centralization vs decentralization.

I don't expect them to. My little brother is 16 and mostly just knows how to play video games, and is def. not interested in learning about blockchain or anything else that requires brainpower, with all the puberty going on i think 16 year olds are not the best targe audience.
But here's the difference. Back in the 70's when I was that age, I at least had the option of learning Fortran. I was more interested in smoking pot and getting laid, but at least I had the option. Schools now don't touch this tech because it's associated with BTC.
A couple days ago I asked a bunch of 16 year olds if they'd ever heard the term 'blockchain' before. None of them had. They had heard of Bitcoin, of course. It's too bad. They should be learning about this technology now.
