It is a good site. Seems to be pretty much straight HTML and js. Note that they used relative links exclusively, which is required for an IPFS site as I understand. It looks like an entirely static site. It loads very quickly. I want to learn how to get that speed with IPFS.
Wait, I am getting some 'resolve' failures, basically a 404 for IPFS. So this site does reflect the same problems I've encountered. It seems if you want your IPFS site to be up 24/7, you need to keep your own node running, and if that's the case, why not just run your own Apache.

Main takeaways from #12RulesForLife: * a good life is made by balancing order & chaos * meaning in life comes from the responsibility u take * learn & appreciate the past * explore, accept, & integrate ur dark side * pay close attention to everything in ur life - esp. the ‘minor’
Peterson is a powerful speaker. I like how he calls everyone out across the political spectrum; he doesn't let anyone off the hook. Excellent use of logic, reasoning, scientific thought, and historical perspectives.

I've made beer a couple of times and will be starting another brew soon. Sourdough is actually quite easy and forgiving once you get the knack of it. Do you brew as well?
In a past life I did. Brewing takes location stability, space, time, and proper climate. It also takes not a huge investment, but a significant one in money, time, and spirit. I will brew again some day!

I'm jealous of this. I've never been able to pull this off with any bread, let alone sourdough. Do you by any chance make beer also?

if you were to make/watch a cryptocurrency themed movie, what would you want it to look like/be about?
Don't make crypto the main character, find your main character(s), humans, real people, find their conflicts, motivations, dramas, etc., take their/the two or three main storylines, then figure out how crypto fits into that. How does crypto create/partake/solve those conflicts.

I'm more worried about television controlling thoughts. Or news outlets. Or governments. The machines will be critical for combating wealth and power concentrations, I have no doubt.
You have a good point. Clearly the regular media outlets, whether TV or web-based, can really do a number on people's ability to reason and think critically.

But... is it easy to grow? 😜 I've had moringa tea. It needs... assistance... to be acceptable. Any tips?
It's extremely easy to grow. I used to just whack off a limb and stick it in the ground. It will root and start producing shoots within 1-2 weeks. It grows very fast. A 2yo tree can easily reach 12 feet. And it loves to be cut back -- it stimulates growth.

i will do more research! definitely like the idea that it is hardy against drought and easy to grow. now if only i could keep it away from the cat... 🐱
Here's a video about moringa in Hawaii. It grows in tropical and sub-tropical climates. A deep freeze will kill it, as will poorly draining, wet soil. Other than that, it's almost impossible to kill!

that sounds like a wonderful garden! pumpkin i love especially, for baking and soup. and bamboo shoots and rice!! i am not familiar with moringa, however. is it an herb? how do you use it?
Oh no! Moringa is a truly a super food. Loaded with nutrients, easy to grow, drought resistant. Moringa is probably the most exciting food out there, IMHO, for its potential to address nutritional deficiencies around the world. I'm a huge believer in moringa. So easy to grow!

Well, when we actually lived at the house with the garden, I grew a lot of different greens, a yam leaf I smuggled in from Asia (stir fry with garlic and salt), pumpkin, okra, lots of basil, peppers, ginger, citrus, bamboo (edible)... lots of things!

I could never afford one in HI or CA either! We bought in a cheap state. Problem is, it's a cheap state because there's no work there worth doing, so we moved. So, yeah, I have a garden. It's growing weeds at the moment and providing habitat for creatures cute and not so cute.

The amount of trash that moves through the USPS astounds me. I've lived outside the US for most of the last 30 years, so to go back and get an address and get all this stuff, it's crazy. I liked it at first. Wow! Somebody cares! A month later the thrill was gone.

How long until we lose the ability to navigate? Satellite navigation has taken over much of that requirement. Trying to “hey Siri” whilst driving to make a phone call is a comedy of errors. I am not fully trained.
Last year, I went to Europe for my first real vacation in a long time, and everybody had their heads to their phones for navigation as they walked around city centers. I saw, in 20 days, one couple reading a map. I love maps.

you don't have to do much of anything here in america and you will get useless magazines. 😂
Well, they're not useless. We use them for fish bones while we're eating. They have all sorts of uses. I read somewhere that all printing in the US has to be done with recyclable ink, so they're safe for composting. You can use them in your garden for weed control.

Google will achieve this. We just don’t know how close they actually are to it right now. https://daringfireball.net/2018/05/yammering_on_regarding_google_duplex
And if we start changing our language in order to communicate with machines, then we are changing our thought patterns to do so, and that means machines are, to come extent, controlling our thought. We should all be very worried about that.

Natural language processing is the holy grail of AI. My fear is not that we will figure out NLP, it is that in our efforts to make it work, we will inadvertently cause people to start changing their NL in order to talk to machines. That scares me because language is thought.

I have little doubt that AI will eventually be forced upon all of us, but it's going to have to come down in price ( as in privacy costs), quit sending randomly recorded conversations out to random recipients, and quit driving over people!

The main problem I've found is the changing hash URLs. Change a file, the url for that file changes but also for its directory. IPNS can only point to one file or folder, so you'd need multiple peerIDs for even a small site. At least that's my understanding.

Me too! I've played around with html and css files on ipfs. It works; they do access each other, but changes take a while to appear. The problem would be those functions that are server side, like php, forms, etc. Here's thought - why not move those processes to the browser?
In other words, maybe somebody will figure out how to move functions that have traditionally been handled by Apache to the client side. Does this already exist?

I am also on the lookout for a decentralized service that will allow for running a web server (to serve up some basic HTML), and also for a CDN to host some css and javavascript. If a dApp still hinges on centralized hosting, is it *really* decentralized?

Interesting! Are they the same types as are grown elsewhere? Also, I've also heard they can be very expensive; is that true? Looking forward to visiting one day! @d2r2
Good question! They certainly taste different, applely, but different. We get huge ones for $1/each or less here. These would cost probably at least $10/each in other countries. I'll work on getting pictures. There are more expensive ones, but we're frugal types.

Sorry, that was for @notoriousnobody. Hope I spelled that right.

Dang. So it's all going to come down to what is easier and cheaper for the person wanting to buy a bag of chips.

But OMG is well established, right? A bit off topic, doesn't every ETH token, if adopted, raise the value of ETH? Because it has to use ETH to execute?

Nature of ipfs is not suitable for websites but for storages maybe? mmm... when a website is slow and not easy to update, it's not pleasant.
That's my take, but I'm just a student of all this. I think decentralized sites can work, but for now, I'll stick to using central servers for my websites and use ipfs for static files. Ultimately, we must decentralize. "Don't put all your eggs in one basket."
