couldn't Peepeth engineers block a user from using the Peepeth proprietary front end if the user was, say posting something illegal (i.e. child prom or military confidential info)
Definitely. In fact, it will fall on the maker of any alternate front end to regulate their own content. What cannot be regulated, however, is the hash that references the post in the IPFS. Any posts that make it to the IPFS are on the etherchain immutably.

This is why PeepEth has to take over Social media people. Instagram denied my promotion of a post because i was "advertising financial services" and my business model was "unsupported and meant to deceive." The thing is I wasn't selling anything!
DeezNuts started getting denied on Facebook and Twitter for the same reason.. Anything related to crypto they won't touch... it took 2 weeks of back and forth appeals to get them to approve my t-shirt advertisement because it was flagged as "financial" and "deceptive"...

Why do peeps need to be saved on chain? Doesn't sound that it provides much of a value tbh
Saving the hash to the etherchain and the peep to the IPFS lays the foundation for other devs to create alternate front ends based on the peepeth backend. Peeps are time stamped on-chain at the block they are mined, and other time data is local to the peepeth.com front end.

Now that I seem to have gotten Metamask unstuck, I continue to see the "unsaved actions" notification, even after paying. I wondering if I'm now paying multiple times to make that go away, because it's showing post-payment while still in the waiting period? If so, should be fixe
I think Peepeth will show an unsaved notifitaction until the transaction is actually confirmed. So it is probably just in the pool waiting to be mined. Resumbitting (at same gas cost) should result in a failure due to the replacement transaction being underpriced or a nonce error

Peeps, I found token named "sense" in my Toshi wallet today. Since I haven't added it, this means.... someone sent me this token?? Does anybody know why this is happening?
They're from Drew ( @TheLegend27 ) for a project he is working on. He sent some to all his followers. ;)

I don't feel super strongly about it, but in the absence of a favorite button, cheap tips seem like a good way to interact with peeps more frequently. Also, I'm not sure I should have to like a peep $1 worth in order to express it. Otherwise we might get too much "same" peeps.
I whole heartedly agree with not wanting to encourage "sameness" of peeps... we are already at high risk for being an echo chamber, and bringing healthy diversity to the platform is super important.

A lot of people have asked and suggested this, but personally, I feel like $1 is a fair minimum
If it's not worth at least $1, then it's probably not worth committing to an immutable platform for the rest of eternity. ;)

There is no delete. All peeps are public. Your peeps can be seen by future you. Plus future employers, partners, grand kids, mainstream media, political parties, advertisers and your mother. Peep responsibly and check for typos.
How does Europe plan on enforcing this law on international actors who create a platform but have zero control over the blockchain (based on the fundamental premise is that nothing is forgotten)? Is there no level of personal responsibility written into #GDPR for users?

Did you see the rest of the thread? My point is that a "dapp" is potentially overkill for what peepeth does
I did, indeed. What I mean is that the "overkill" is part of a long term vision for more cross EVM integration. So while it may be overkill for what it currently does (hashing and proof-of-publication), it lays the foundation for other dApp integration based on the EVM. ;)
Replying to @udiWertheimer (0xa1c25a98427c88806f76317a731c0a621390e744)
The main reason I can see to use ETH here, is that Metamask already exists and is easy to use. Otherwise using something like BTC (and definitely smaller alts like LTC/BCH/DOGE) might actually end up being cheaper
One of the long term visions is to see multiple front ends developed based on the peepeth backend, and Ethereum is currently the most widely supported dApp engine.
I also see potential for embedding other dApp widgets on Peepeth.com (a polling dApp for instance). #DevFriendly :)

Assuming I can fund a ppth account with anon eth, wouldn't my peeps be safe. No entity or organisation can force @bevan to reveal data because the data is decentralised, yes?
The peepeth backend data stored on the etherchain and IPFS are decentralized, but the interactions through the Peepeth.com front end are not and are still subject to the same scrutiny/records/tracking as traffic and interactions with any other webserver.

Do you think it's possible to stay anonymous on Peepeth and avoid private/governmental tracking?
It would be difficult, given that you need to aquire initial ETH from somewhere, and all transfers of ether are backwards traceable on the public etherchain. True online anonymity almost doesn't exist anymore.

It feels so unnatural not to be able to fave replies. Should I start doling out $0.01 tips like "hey I saw that; here's a positive interaction"? Or should I just embrace that the norms here will be different from 1:1 Twitter clones
We are fostering a new era of social media interaction; evolving beyond the superficial "like" and challenging the community to both create content that is worthy of more than half-hearted interaction, and to engage with one another in a more thoughtful and involved way. ;)

Here's a proper link to our latest blog on #SegWit: https://blog.bitwage.com/2018/04/19/segwit-lightning/ (Looks like Peepeth doesn't support certain text shortenings.)
You just have to prepend hyperlinks with the appropriate http or https in order to activate the link. The idea is that there are several new.domains and converting every word.something into a link could get messy. Shortened links should still work fine with the proper prefix.

So what is the idea? Thinking twice before you post?
I think the immutabilty of your words are a strong incentive to take more time gathering your thoughts and sharing them with the world. This, combined with the cost of gas, in theory should lead to more thoughtful discussions and content from the entire community.

Is the Peepeth team from Leeroy? Note on Leeroy site: Better alternatives now exist that build on top of the research and ideas pioneered at Leeroy. Please join the rest of the Leeroy community as we explore the future of decentralized social media at Peepeth.
The Peepeth team ( @Bevan ) isn't from Leeroy, but the platform evolved out of Leeroy. @James (creator of Leeroy) wrote the IPFS Peepeth Reader found at https://peepeth.com/front_end to demonstrate the ease of developing alternative front ends for Peepeth.

So basically you are telling me that the future is split up in multiple parts and each part is hosted on multiple nodes across the globe?
Given all possible options and choices made by every individual and entity operating autonomously, the timeline will always reach a consensus on the actual future. In order to revise history, a single entity would simply need to control 51% of all historical reference points. ;)

Delete/edit before commit is on the roadmap.
I don't even want edit/delete to be on the roadmap anymore.. At first, it seemed like something I was really missing, but now I just have to read, think, check for typos, consider the consequenses of my #peep, consider the immutability, read again, and THEN post.

What's the best way to go about buying an eth addy? I only use Metamask and Trust on iOS.
Head over to https://mycrypto.com/#ens and search for the name you want. Follow the instructions. Then you have to come back a few days later to "reveal" your bid and claim the address. I messed up the last time and forgot to go back for the reveal, so I only know the theory.

@kwikiel I'm new to this blockchain app space. Is the goal of Peepeth to migrate Twitter users who are concerned about censorship to Peepeth? are there other reasons users would migrate? thx
I like to think the goal is to foster a more thoughtful mentality in the social mediasphere. When there is no delete button and everything you post is forever engrained onto the etherchain, it teaches you to slow down, think out your posts, and be a better internetter. ;)

Yah mon. Just toggle between your loaded wallets under "Settings". Have to reload dApp pages manually after switching wallets to trigger the account change, but pretty seamless all in all.

Help. I have so many metamask wallets floating around, all containing different dapp stuff. How do you guys manage your wallets?
I have imported my accounts into my #Trust wallet and now do most of my dApp interactions on mobile. Super easy to switch back and forth between wallets and change networks. If I need to inspect any code I pop onto MM in Chrome on desktop.
