Think of all the superfluous regulatory paper-pushing processes that won't be needed when anyone can track their food from #FarmToTable. The opportunities in developing nations are massive. http://ow.ly/tEhL30jYMIZ #blockchain #agriculture

This is an interesting application of blockchain, but as the article points out, the system isn't really "trustless" as it relies on human non-intervention to preserve the results. As long as there are incentives to skew the data, there will be an actor looking to take advantage.

May 14, 2018 15:00

I believe that religion and morality are not the same thing; our collective narratives may include lessons on how to be better people, but they are a record of millenia of trial and error and not the immediate cause or pillar of "goodness"

May 14, 2018 14:38

I believe that people are poorly represented by their leaders; innevitably we put people in charge who fall remarkably short of representing their people as a whole. We should strive to remind ourselves that we are all human and thus, deeply fallable.

I believe in working toward the goal of a "world without borders", where we come together as an entire species to tackle the global challenge of finite resources rather than fighting for what others have. We're not even close yet, but that should be our goal.

I believe that humans, in general, do the best they can with the circumstances situations they are given; noone is ultimately out to hurt one another, but that is frequently an unfortunate side effect of acting in percieved self interest.

Is this fee a gas fee, or a fee payed to the smart contract? I centainly would pay for it, but idk how people would take it

The question is mainly due to @abcoathup's alternate approach to having users sign a vote and record that on the IPFS and then batch save a summary of all signatures to the etherchain... the method I am using is trustless but incurs a higher operating cost in gas per vote.

The "fee" is just gas. The smart contract itself has no fee associated for use, but does include a withdrawFunds method to allow the owner to pull out any ETH donated in the form of tips (to reward cool polls). I called it a fee because that is how many view gas costs.

Smart contract struct for polls and questions (actual text in IPFS). Users sign offchain votes, which are written to IPFS (via queue). Append to existing votes and publish IPNS. Front end uses IPNS and parses votes. Write end results to smart contract. Have to trust vote saving.

Want to minimise poll cost to creation and saving end results but then have to trust votes aren’t thrown away. Could even start without any onchain.

I wish I could make a poll before I build my dApp to ask the community if they would be cool paying $.50 to create a poll if it meant they may make it back in the form of tips, and if users would be cool paying $.02 to vote if it means no need for tokens or other hoops.. 🤔

I am warming to the idea of an ensō leaderboard stat, if only as a way to distinguish "quality vs quantity" relative to the #peepleader counts. ;)

I think for ensō received, it would be cool to track specific peeps rather than totals by user. And for tips, track user totals.

It's crazy how this happens, not just on Peepeth, but in most social forums; the more active voices there are, the less desire we feel to participate. It's like the relative loss of impact our individual voices carry changes the dynamic of the entire platform. 🤔 #peeplosophy

Death, in and of itself, is a great motivator to accomplish as many things as possible in the relatively limited span of time we have in this world; many things in life are uncertain, but there is one thing that is always guaranteed. Enrich you life by embracing the unavoidable.

Integrated apps that make onboarding simpler and familiar; something that allows for in-app-purchases as a way to get crypto in your wallet and then seamlessly handles all of the signing, queuing, noncing, and other transactional shennanigans (like gas) in the background.

IMO, game changer in shifting from the old internet business model of funding through advertisement revenue to the new internet era of users "paying" for their privacy.

This is an interesting dynamic, and perhaps even a false narrative; by placing our data literally on an immutable public blockchain, are we really paying for our "privacy"? To me, it seems like we are actually making our data more freely mineable to everyone. 🤔

Looks slick. I was trying to figure out how to list a custom token and hit a wall.. The FAQ states that they do not select tokens to list and it is user driven, but pulling up a token by its contract address will not allow you to sell. We got any #airswap devs on Peepeth yet? ;)

On-chain voting is expensive. Better to sign votes, and store in IPFS with the hash of the results on chain. It already exists (though the current poll requirements are not suitable for fun votes) https://www.etherchain.org/coinvote

That looks foundationally like what I am thinking, but without weighing votes based on ETH balance and with a simpler barrier to entry (no need to sign to create poll, just pay to spawn a new poll).

Can you learn me something on sign and store in IPFS? Any good articles on this?

Maker > question, options
Magic > spawn contact, return abi/address
More Magic > spin abi into embeddable polling script/object (store on IPFS?)
Website > show poll object
Voter > pay for gas to cast vote

In theory, something like this would integrate nicely on peepeth.

Negative. Its not impossible, but it would take a lot of forethought and effort to ensure that no digital footprints are left creating a link back to an actual person. It is doable, but there are (supposedly) other platforms that are easier to use for said shady actions.

couldn't Peepeth engineers block a user from using the Peepeth proprietary front end if the user was, say posting something illegal (i.e. child prom or military confidential info)

The disincentive from doing illegal stuff on the etherchain is that everything is back traceable through the public chain.. Ethereum is one of the least appealing platforms for shady actors seeking anonymity (because the platform is so open and transparent).
