Hi Bevan! Most of them are common species, also there are special ones for special gifts! Those rare, huge, or specially cared apples are expensive. The highest price I've ever heard was 2,000JPY (18USD approx), for an apple.

I took it easy. I took some photos, answered some email, listened to the sounds of the forest. I thought I could here a lyrebird scratching away but too late in the day to see one me thinks.
listening to the sounds of nature is honestly one of the best things ever. i might want to put headphones in when i'm running around the city or suburbs but not in the forest!
did a google of this place after you posted the pics. are lyrebirds pretty common there?

Beautiful! Glad you got to fit in this adventure before you fly east. Have pinned Pololu to my "want to go" list. Love this peep narrative! (the first?) Going to try to make one of my own soon...
waipi'o valley is not too far from there (near honokaa) and can be a beastly hike but so worth the trip to be in one of the world's deepest valleys and see some of the most amazing waterfalls. as for the future #narrative, i look forward to reading it! :)

Beautiful nevertheless! I love beaches in rainy/cold weather :) (pic below is one of my favorites from when I lived in Denmark - Skagen [the northernmost point where the seas meet])

I really enjoyed the royal wedding this morning. It was a wonderful reprieve from the ugly realities of most news coverage.
