Thanks for bringing this up. I feel your frustration; when I want to peep it's annoying to have to wait for the TX to be confirmed. I'll be improving the batch-saving experience in a couple of ways. Will consider instant confirmation, but as @veox mentioned it can be gamed.
If it can be gamed... it will be gamed.

Hi! Right now I have only one budgie.
Beautiful. Name?

I tried it and did not get a pre-populated verification message...
It is completely random, as far as I can tell. It has happened many times now though (on desktop), so I know there's something to it...
If anyone else encounters this behavior... take notes on everything that was happening just before! lol
@NateStipe Thanks for experimenting with PEEP tokens and sending some my way. Waiting for people more creative than me to find a fun use for them. Keep experimenting!
@Bevan #bug
I am not able to reproduce this well enough to be insightful, but on occasion when I click in the Peep box at the top of the page the textbox gets pre-populated with a Twitter verification message.
This has happened several times now on different days. Anyone else?

I assume the 5mb limit is on the front end, either peepeth or INFURA. IPFS will have storage costs in future, though none right now.
Yep. and Yep.

Have upped the limit to 7MB for now @matt @pinastri. More updates soon.
@plumber86 see! Everybody want's to see the rerouting!

You could use #Toshi
Yes... assuming your counterpart was also on Toshi. Has the added benefit of being strongly encrypted end to end.

A lot of the pics I just took are over 5mb. Won’t let me post anything over 5mb
Yeah, peeple have asked for compress on ingest (make smaller on upload) ... I think that's on the to-do list... in the meantime... can you dial down the capture size on your phone? You know we wanna see what you're working on. Don't make us wait. ;-)

So, this will show you all my lack of knowledge on the subject, but...is the point of Peepeth being on the ethereum net just to create an immutable record of these communications? And, is that not possible with IPFS alone, with it's purpose to keep data permanent?
So IPFS can store data... but you want public access to more than just data - you need a database that links the data to a specific user (and proves only that user posted that data) - that's where the blockchain comes in.

I second this. But maybe I'm just used to existing social media paradigms...so I keep looking for a <strong>like</strong> button

Anybody know if you can PM on Peepeth?
No direct messaging yet... but I know at least one other person that asked for it. Would be off chain...

don't worry, guys, I was just testing the tweet-from-peepeth function. The tweet is there :)
I thought that was a possibility... but others have actually just Peeped it without Tweeting.
@Bevan any way we could get an indicator if a Peep had been Tweeted from the UI? Might be a cool metric to track in its own right anyway...
Replying to @Bevan (0x30755d3e65c0cf46c35b72d11e52d941c5fc3a3e)
Good question. The Twitter info you entered for your invitation isn't actually used on Peepeth at all. However, you can verify your Twitter handle, or simply include it in your "info" section.
I believe what Nate is saying is that they tried to verify the wrong Twitter name (typo)... and might not be sure if they can remedy that mistake and restart verification with the correct name.

Hi, Max, you need to TWEET that exact message over on your Twitter account. That's how Peepeth can verify you own that Twitter account.

@marumorio @abcoathup @jvck Currently, only very basic html tags are allowed (b, i, u). Am considering markdown too, perhaps as a "pro" feature. Something nice about letting ones' words stand alone, though.
Well, I wasn't even mentioned here!
I would love to be able to emphasize things on occasion.
All for pro-version markdown :-)

Good to see you @callmegwei , you were the only interesting user I could find on Leeroy (RIP).
Well, thank you for the complement - though I found a few other "interesting" folks over on Leeroy...
Peepeth allows even more interaction due to the batching and overall refinement - so people can be more interesting here generally!
And they are!

@abcoathup @bevan @callmegwei were some of the first people I started to follow. Very tech savvy folks, and have a genuine attitude when it comes to helping explain. @hannah because she’s gonna be famous, and a cool person. But really the whole community is pretty great bud.
Thank's for the kind words, Matt!
I say follow everyone while you can! Mostly signal here, not a lot of noise.
Another reason I think following should be excluded from the action count...

Newbie here and really believe in it. What's really distracting are all these people in it to make money only, it takes away from the decentralized movement and all you get are a bunch of rude yelling jerkoffs. It's very difficult to wade thru that when you're trying to learn.
Yeah, the "get rich quick" thing can be distracting noise in any space. Worse, it can introduce biases that completely interfere with proper explanations and educational attempts. To be successful globally takes all kinds though - educate everyone! That's my goal. :-)

That’s awesome! I’ve been trying to learn more about the technical aspects of blockchain. You guys that write code and program have my respects. Your in the front line of developing and changing the ways for the entire community. Thank you for the devotion to educating us.
Whoa! Flattered to be bundled with those guys, but I'm a complete solidity novice. I've programmed small projects and done some front end work, but I have a long way to go to be as cool as @Bevan et al.
Working on it though, between travel and articles.
Am devoted to educating!

Do a single peep (not batch) and once confirmed on the blockchain, look up the transaction input in ASCII and use the IPFS hash to get the JSON for a peep. (Or look up a previous peep). Modify the peep text and then add to IPFS. Then save the IPFS hash to the smart contract.
Thank you! Will try to break it later. Ok, not really... just looking for bugs.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sorry for being unclear; I'm wondering why data is stored til the blockchain at all. Couldn't it be enough to just store to ipfs and sign with the wallet?
Ok, but then how could you easily iterate over everying on ipfs to find all posts for Peepeth? Wouldn't Peepeth have to keep a local copy of the ipfs hashes? and then if Peepeth shut down ... poof?
Or am I missing something too?
@abcoathup didn't you post to Peepeth via the abi and ipfs? Could you provide a little guidance on how you did that exactly? MEW for abi interactions... or? Wanting to test a few things, but unsure of how to do so... TIA

I assume China is a special case so we get strange effects for @hannah.
Right...good reminder. ... But what are the dynamics of that time stamping issue? And could there be a fix?
@Bevan #suggestion
Maybe let us choose if we would like the Tweet box on or off by default? I have to uncheck it for most peeps... esp replies/repeeps because they would make no sense over on Twitter without context... but I don't want to disable Twitter forwarding entirely.

Thanks everyone for the support and feedback. Several fixes requested recently are in place @callmegwei @abcoathup. Including "save to blockchain" on different pages, easier following, user # in profiles, and various others. A couple new features and more fixes soon.
Bravo! Getting easier to use all the time. Any way to have a public changelog (maybe outside of the UX like the stats link you provided?)

So, I just posted the last message twice... rapid accidental double-click of the post button. Please, can you save me from my future clumsy self by making that an impossibility?

I mined some Bitcoin back in ~2009 - and the hard drive was discarded along with the wallet some time around 2011. Circa 2015 I started to get serious about the space. Decentralization will transform economies. Rent-seeking intermediaries and gatekeepers will be unable to compete
I decided to write about the space at the end of last year - because there was so much misinformation. I was spending most of my time talking/reading about the crypto space anyway. I'm a hard-core believer in the potential... will spend the rest of my life trying to help it along

How long have you been in the crypto space and what keeps the flame burning? I got into it after reading about Silk Road, and the idea of digital currency blew my mind. Lost interest a month in, and back in October 2017 obsessed consumed me since. Wish I invested more then 😁

@bevan Is there an article on the architecture of Peepeth? I'm uncertain what the blockchain is delivering vs running the whole thing on swarm/ipfs. Is it only as a proof of existence / time of posting?
Tipping is a possibility here - though the front end could facilitate peer-to-peer transfers... trying to sustain a social network without ads is nifty.
Each post is saved to ipfs - but don't we still need a public database to build alt front ends in a trustless manner?
