We are on the verge of a new internet. I am on it right now. This is big. Very big.
Welcome to Peepeth!
I think you and I are thinking more-or-less the exact same thing.

There‘s a lot of techno-talk here. But the whole blickchain thing is quite new to me.
Well @jimmurdoch - it's pretty new to everyone! It will take a while for the world to wrap our collective mind around blockchains and everything they can allow us to accomplish.
So, please, don't feel like the odd-man-out.
Big day tomorrow for the Peepeth platform and what it hopes to bring into the world, Peeple.
See you then!

Obviously you've not been in either of those positions.
Come on @cruz ! But, hey, don't listen to them, because it won't do any good for your programming abilities.

So what do you do, you might ask? Enumerate possible data structures as types, and in creating the Genesis block, pass in the possibilities ahead-of-time is one option. But this fixes the possibilities at genesis; an update to possible types would require re-genesis mid-chain.
Hey, I'm enjoying this #ThinkingOutLoud stuff.

This space is really new, so the new paradigm and its implications are sometimes still overridden by "muscle memory". Anything uploaded can never be erased *in theory*. It can only be hidden. Might want to think about getting a new DL.
Be careful out there - but keep exploring!

Regardless of if there is more than a single version of the truth...
... there is always more than a single way to impart information.
One of those ways is with positivity, patience, and empathy.
The other ways... don't jive with Peepeth's openly stated goals.

It likens to a "fantasy football" sort of thing, or betting on horse races. Augur is interesting in general because it pulls and evaluates the accuracy of public opinion. The importance is validation in truth and actuality.
Also, I like the idea that if (when?) humans are phased out of many jobs - we may still have employment as oracles (only mildly in jest).
Prediction markets like Augur, being mechanisms for deriving truth, as you pointed out, will be important for the economy going forward, imo

I find uninformed gambling, for the sake of gambling, a giant waste of human resources. But I tend to underestimate the value others generally place on self-amusement.
I agree with your last line.

I'll be the first to admit that the future is mostly a mystery - so I haven't made any predictions on Augur. I think prediction markets can be healthy for a society. Hedging against uncertainty is a common need - and the fewer third parties skimming value off the top, the better.
(Not to say their skimming was unwarranted when there were no other options. Now we have decentralized options. [pardon the pun])
As far as UX goes - Augur has a way to go. Initial chain sync is a little slow. No built-in tutorial. It's getting better though. (Have it installed)

i'd like to see your absolute, solid, concrete evidence that supports this claim, lol. otherwise, it's pretty racist, the subtext of which is neither lacking nor hard to discern here.
Any evidence would necessarily hinge on projections about the future.
Projections are necessarily based on trust - trust about the data gathered, the models used, and the trend's ability to persist in an ever-changing world.
Projections belong on Augur. Positivity belongs here.

Nah. It's still possible to discuss things with people that end their thoughts that way... It just means it's time you two discuss something else! Idea exchanges can be really stressful when people understand/interpret things 180° apart. I learned from both of you.
Anyway, you're both wrong. I'm right...

Instead, I'll just leave this here:

kinda as an aside, I understand the fed has moved on bitcoin dealers to inform on folk that sold their bitcoin at a profit, the govt wants its cut. I haven't really looked at the ins and outs about this, I am thinking the fed gvt has a foothold on taxing profits. thoughts?
Oh yeah, lots of thoughts. Probably too many for Peepeth. I need to write an article on all of them. In short, I believe they are trying to raise friction and costs to undermine the utility and appeal of using crypto currencies (esp as cash). No fiat =much fewer enforceable taxes
Replying to @ChiliMac (0x90cfd4934278cfc9205e5893b089074acd8eb351)
I'm leery of cashless agenda, if currency becomes totally digital, it is too vulnerable (emp attack, service disruption, subversive cyber attack, etc) compared to more tangible forms of currency, ie, gold/silver coin, etc. just my thoughts.
Those concerns are very valid - and solutions are being worked on. Solar powered mesh radio networks... using cellphones in a peer to peer mode... having blockchain snapshots secured from attacks. People are experimenting with solutions. Cash backed by by blockchains possible too

Perhaps, though I get the impression that a lot of folk here are true believers in the blockchain as a means of building wealth, and its ability to decentralize direct control over content on the net despite recent examples of censorship, etc.

Absolutely.
Not to say the crypto community will nail dApp implementations the first time - or even the Nth. But we finally have tools that make our ambitions such as these appear realistically realizable.

#CoinUpdate 8/18/2018 18:35z Looks like some minor drops in crypto, but as BTC changes, goes even, spikes a little, drops to half the spike value; theres a probability of a positive bullish trend in the next 24 hour period.

Billion dollar ICOs may have their place (caveat being that the token holders should always be able to influence/control how capital is used).
That said, this project doesn't need a billion dollars...
... But it does need support !
