I can agree with the last line. The others - I can't subscribe to as readily. Rapidity of decisions is tied to instinct. Hopefully, that's more often trumped by careful consideration in those close-knit groups. Either way, I enjoy your quote posts and you sharing your thoughts.
Depends on how big one's picture is, so it's definitely trump-able. Great call on incorporating instincts. Whether derived from nature or nurture, short-term and long-term instinctual inclinations likely play a large intuitive role in a lot of reactions.

Maybe outside of the close-knit communities of family and friends...
Sure, but while family and friends may reserve special situations, many times the fear of loss for oneself facilitates their actions, whereas love can be taken for granted endlessly.
People likely react to fear of losing love quicker than they'll react for the sake of that love.
"Any reviewer who expresses rage and loathing for a novel is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae." - Kurt Vonnegut
"People react to fear, not love - they don't teach that in Sunday School but it's true." - Leonardo da Vinci

"It is better to have your head in the clouds and know where you are... than to breathe the clearer atmosphere below them, and think that you are in paradise." - Henry David Thoreau
"One day you'll leave this world behind, so live a life you will remember." - Avicii (Tim Bergling)
"Thinking is one thing no one has ever been able to tax." - Charles Kettering
"Introspection, or 'sitting in silence,' is an unscientific way of trying to force apart the mind and senses, tied together by the life force. The contemplative mind attempting its return to divinity is constantly dragged back toward the senses by the life currents." - Yogananda
"Anyone who conducts an argument by appealing to authority is not using his intelligence; he is just using his memory." - Leonardo da Vinci

"All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone." - Blaise Pascal

Why in the world is nearly everyone I meet only interested in profit? What about the ethics, the people around us and the environment? Why is everything layed out for making money? Can't understand that. :(
Because people seek social acceptance and long-term conservation of energy, or an "easy, happy finish" in life. People look around and see everyone targeting profit and career/social success now, so they think they should be too. Conscious moral human evolution takes time.
