Welcome back home. Nice meeting you in Melbourne. Which is a real place!!
Thanks Andrew! Yes nice to meet you and thanks for your tips. Had a great time in Melbourne, which also seemed fairly real to me. If only there was some kind of decentralised way we could come to consensus on these questions 🧐

I'm not saying Australia doesn't exist. I'm just saying I need more evidence.

Totally. Although I guess it's not the micropayments per se that I'm concerned about. It's more the fact that addictive algorithms are like fast food. Healthier options are available, but they don't have the same short term feedback loops. Algos without fees are predatorial.
Sure. Building a more ethical web is kinda like getting people to eat kale after a lifetime of McDonalds. And then they have to pay a fee every time! But just like with food, people are realising there are health costs to poor media consumption choices. There will be a shift.

I'm nervous the barrier to adoption for dapps over their centralized incumbents is that old services have weaponed algorithms to make their platforms as addicting (and free) as possible. Dapps typically have microfees per tx. Can the mainstream get "addicted" to microfees?
The mechanics of the micropayments could be abstracted; the user just knows that they pay $5 per month. That money sits in a wallet and the client application handles paying the tx fees out of it.
The Verticordias are really doing their thing this year in WA. #PlantsOfPeepeth #botany

Interesting perspective - I bet everyone on Peepeth fits into this somehow.

I have applied for #buidl_bali Feb 2019. Very exciting. https://peepeth.com/a/retreat
Me too! Very exciting indeed.

Do you think I should remove the functionality to ban mokens? Info about that here: https://mokens.io/about @all @abcoathup @NateStipe
Interesting idea. What about a voting mechanism for deciding whether a moken should be banned, or a market for determining cost of publishing a moken which considers the content? There might be ways to protect the network from harmful content without centralisation
What are your most interesting crypto or blockchain discoveries from the past week? And why? (genuine projects or tech only, preferably things without purely financial imperative)

I really enjoyed Pollan's The Botany of Desire: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Botany_of_Desire
One of my favourites :)

Wow, that's gorgeous.
Thank you Jordan :)
Just returned from a few days exploring the Great Western Woodlands, the largest temperate woodland remaining on the planet. Wish I was still out there.

Alfred Preferences -> General -> Re-check "start Alfred on launch" You can also check System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Login Items -> and make sure Alfred is on the list
Thanks, that was an easy fix ;)

I'm getting a slight delay in activating Alfred.app via hotkey after upgrading to macOS High Sierra. Anyone else have a similar experience?
I am having a problem where Alfred just doesn't open automatically on boot anymore. Probably something simple but haven't looked into it yet.

@child You're in very good company here. Many of us are very aware of this opportunity. We'll make it happen together. No doubt in my mind. #BlockchainStrong
Thanks. Have you come across the Satoshi Oath? http://ipfs.b9lab.com:8080/ipfs/QmXysWEAexXQqYZhTGpECvksnaBkSEWHdGhM7vNeHxue2g/
I think it's an art/conversation piece, but an interesting idea to define and formalise what 'blockchain ethics' might look like.
So is anyone working on blockchain applications for nature conservation, biodiversity restoration, or environmental sustainability, (other than renewable energy)? Please contact me :)

Welcome Chid! Loving your photos.
Thanks Bevan! Congratulations on making something useful and not purely finance related with ethereum! It's great to be a part of it.

@chid I applaud your tagline "Blockchain is cool, let's not fuck it up"... there are definitely those who would love to fuck it up :(
Thank you. We have a once in a generation chance to build things that make the world better and fairer and it's important we keep those goals in mind amidst the ocean of quick money.

I'm loving your photos. I've never been to that part of the country but did the Melbourne -> Darwin -> Melbourne drive last winter and they're reminding me a lot of that.
Awesome, I haven't really been through the center before. Outback Australia is full of diversity and surprises but also has many common features throughout.
I'll leave you with these spider orchids, found in wandoo woodland near York, Western Australia. Come and visit some time. #nature #botany

Oh, my profile cover photo is from Wandina Station in the midwest of WA. An amazing erosional landscape.
