ZeroNet has grown so much since the last time I checked in on it. It's a shame more people don't use it, but nonetheless, 660 peers, and no less than 75 active at any moment is huge.
I enjoy ZerNet as well. Would love to see some good zites but most are just random things.
Question about ipfs. what problem does it solve if no nodes have the data until it is first called?
Two words. Weighted blanket. Best sleep I've ever had. 15 pounds of cooling love right on top of me.

For those that don't know, Pleroma is a sister project of Mastodon, both being daughters of GNUsocial and ActivityPub, granddaughters of StatusNet/Identi.ca. The pedigree behind federated social networking is quite impressive. If anything can overtake Twitter, ActivityPub can.
Checking it out now!
Today, I'm reminded of several good lessons. 1: never take a full dependency on a single cloud 'region' 2: lightning does really weird things that cannot be anticipated 3: practice your DR, we can't practice it for you.

Your daughter is very cute. She is lucky to have a dad that likes to spend time with her. You look like a very proud dad. Hope to see her dance video one day.
Thank you!!
With my daughter at dance class is about the best thing life can offer

While it's still 95+ degrees out, there was a hint of that "fall smell" in the air as the humidity finally starts to break and the breeze turns from the north. Reminds me of good things to come as we approach my absolute favorite time of year!

Hey all! Appreciate everyone’s support of the Kickstarter campaign. However, I’ve decided to cancel it. It was a worthwhile experiment, but the lack of an ETH option, uncertainty, and fees make it no longer worthwhile to promote.
Whatever you do, TAKE MY MONEY!

I just tried Blockstack’s Graphite file sharing and collaboration platform together with 5Apps decentralised storage. It works like a charm. Now I am working on getting a simple blog site accessible via ipfs/ipns. #CarsonFarmer wrote a tutorial on Medium.
do you have a link?
Happy Monday morning Peepers. This is going to be an interesting week - kids in school and a long weekend upcoming. Any work getting done? Not sure :)

Honestly, I like @peepeth more than @mastodon
Welcome David! What about Peepeth is better for you?
Ah the joys of Friday - meetings getting schedule for 4:30. Those are evil.

I love listening to people who know a lot something, because I tend to know something about everything, but not too much about anything. What kind of person are you: an expert in a few things, or a generalist in many things?
Definitely a generalist - in my world, I have to know a lot about a ton of things, but can't possibly be a technical genius in everything!

So domains can accumulate BAT even if they’re not verified yet. Then when they do verify they can claim all the BAT they’ve received so far :D So there’s a growing incentive for sites like Wikipedia to get on board. Newspapers will love Brave, WP and guardian are already verified
And is a self fulfilling market maker given BAT already has a decent size market value!

Oh aye. But this is why I am arguing the larger point; if Peepeth wishes to be THE social network on the Ethereum network, it might wish to consider remaining agnostic, and open-sourcing the frontend.
I agree with your larger point. I know the contracts are OSS already. I heard once upon a time that the author was considering making portions of the front end OSS. Of course, that's for him to decide as the creator.

This presumes that interactions made in public forums are "private interactions." But from the precedent of Marsh v Alabama, the more a corporation opens its private property to public use, the more individual rights circumscribe the corporation's rights.
This is true and an excellent example. However, it was also held that private companies can modify their terms to create the community they choose without legal repercussion because that action is also protected/cannot be abridged.

Anyone want to hear my take on all the fuss from this morning in RE the politics and nsfw tags?
If this were a history class, I'd remind them that while I don't agree with anything they are saying (and can be objectively proven to be false), I will fight to the death for their right to say it - to the government, not necessarily by way of a 3rd party (3 of 2 hehe)

People arguing of censorship are free to live in peace on the internet, but their opinions do not have to be tolerated by any private or public US company. They simply need to take their discourse to a forum that welcomes them. (2 of 2)

The right to freedom of speech granted to US citizens from abridged or fear of retaliation by and on behalf of the government. Freedom of speech has A) no applicability to private interactions B) only covers US citizens in communications with US government. (1 of 2)

Lastly, users can also pin sites to always receive a % of their monthly allowance, even if they don't visit that month. So in my earlier case I pinned Peepeth.com to always receive 10% of my monthly (BAT). Payments accumulate for publishers even if they're not yet verified!
What a fantastic concept!

@caspar Explanation of the politics hashtag coming. Thanks for asking.

Didnt get a pic of it but am involved in an organization where each month a bunch of old guys get together and give away money to a local charity. Tonight's beneficiary: org that supports kids with siblings who have cancer. So much fun!
And such a worthy and heart filling cause!

ugh, just saw my first US politics peep (not labeled with the politics hashtag either.) peepeth was nice and politics-free while it lasted! signal-to-politics ratio still sky-high!
was bound to happen! i'm hopeful Peepeth can invent something delicious in the "opinionated features" department that will help with civility and/or muting. (Ohhh - idea, use AI to allow us to mute anything it THINKS is political - topical, not hashtag based)

I've heard good things. Something tells me if I start watching it I'll binge watch it all.
You would be right! Free on Netflix US 😁
The first step of reclaiming my social identity is complete. Downloaded and removed all family Vimeo videos (300+) to a private share and reformulating to load into a new blockchain based sharing tool. Absolute data control, privacy and security. Details to come.
Really digging the 46K transaction backlog on Ethereum at the moment.

That's true of course. This one is more like a torrent client with incentives to seed. Makes me think of a private torrent site that requires you to maintain a reasonable up:down ratio, but with tokens as a reward for maintaining the ratio.
That could be quite compelling. Additional thoughts: incentivize clean torrents, protect anonymity and prevent adware/bloat from creeping in.

A forthcoming dApp. Another one I might actually become a daily user of. https://medium.com/@Upfiring/the-upfiring-dapp-august-2018-progress-update-for-upfiring-v1-0-0-9c2873472fb6
Perhaps. The file storage/sharing via blockchain space is pretty crowded. Good UX will be key and that's certainly a nice looking app!
Home from my #blockchainroadtrip and thinking about the #blockchainhouse project. Pics coming soon!
Made it to Stillwater for a new project. Looking for a plot of land to buy for summer trips and football games. #blockchainroadtrip will yield to #blockchainhouse
