Rice and sugarcane diet. Works for me
Don't forget tempeh :)
There is a lot of great fruit (watermelon, avocado, mangosteen, passion fruit I think, dragon fruit, and much more) and vegetables (water spinach, amazing varieties of sambal, eggplant) here too. Looking forward to exploring more markets.

Flight delayed by over two hours. Waiting for yet another gate change.
No worries, see you when you land. Have a good flight!

Is it too expensive to self-host the mail notification service? I am concerned for privacy: why sendgrids needs to know when I receive a notification and when I decide to explore it?
Thanks Emanuele, I'll look into hosting it myself.

I asked my host if this was sugarcane. She said yes, offered me some, and then proceeded to cut down a whole stalk.
Peep-retreaters: I hope you like sugarcane :)

I'm definitely going to try this one. I have everything but fresh turmeric right now.
:)

That way I would not have any pushed notification. Checking the site would destroy the real-time blogging workflow since you cannot check it continuosly.
Good points. I'll consider using a different email service. Let me know if you have any specific suggestions.

Going at that speed and taking selfies! Bevan! 🤭
Despite appearances, I don't peep and drive :) I was just stabilizing the stationary bike with my hand.

It is very good. Even without the honey it's palatable. I think the ginger is sometimes left out, and it still tastes great.
I assumed it would just be a touch of turmeric (since I only ever use it as a spice), but I think they use quite a bit of raw root.

I hope to do a couple of Vlogs whilst at #buidl_bali. @hannah makes it look so easy. I struggled to say #buidl_bali vlog. I’m packed. Though need to do some coding tonight.
I've been saying it wrong all along, lol.

Is there any way to get Peepeth notifications somewhere else? I don't like email notifications and moreover I don't like the monitored (sendgrid) url used in mail notifications.
Thanks for the feedback. One way is to simply turn off email notifications and then check the bell icon. Let me know if you have any other suggestions for improving notifications.

I've never been to Bali. Now I WANT to go to Bali. Nevermind that I live in West Oz and I have never been to the Eastern states... I will go to Bali FIRST.
I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but it's been amazing so far!

Will my taxi make it up that road? (I don’t ride motorbikes/scooters).
We can get rides from the villa manager. Also there are bicycles for rent at the villa :)

It went down like this: "I'd like to rent a moto." "It's 70k per day. For 30k more you aren't responsible if you hit anything." At which point I handed over 100k, wrote down my name, guesthouse, and passport number (they didn't verify), and scooted off into the horizon.
Worth pointing out:
-I'm licensed and have a good amount of experience.
-I have real insurance that covers injury in case of scooter use.
-I brought a good helmet from home.
-The 30k ($2) insurance is of course a joke.
-It's easy to spot bandaged appendages in the tourist areas.

What are the requirements to rent a motorcycle in Bali?

It's definitely hard to stay limber when you have a sedentary occupation. I stretch and exercise daily, but I lose flexibility if I don't do yoga regularly.
Have you tried a flexibility program like Mobility WOD? I'm trying to limber up this year and that's one thing I'm considering (along with more yoga).

I could even extend health, relationship, and ethics goals to that. I.e. if my health supports my focus, if my relationships support my focus, if my ethics are organised in such a way that they make me support my focus
+1 for having aligned goals.

The show must fucking go on.
Amen.
Having geckos on/in your house is supposed to be a good omen 🦎🦎🦎
There was a cover band at the night market playing Maroon 5. On the way back I passed by a number of places with live traditional music, which sounded cool. I should have stopped to check it out, but as often happens when at speed on two wheels, I told myself "next time".
Sate is a popular dish here (grilled meat and fish). The blower fans the flames, making it super hot.
Enjoying some mystery soup. It was pretty good. Total cost: 71 cents.
Checked out the night market. A big contrast to the center of Ubud, which is mainly for tourists.
Exploring the rice paddies north of Ubud. #Bali
I did a Hatha yoga class today, my first class in years. I'm not as limber as I hoped I would be, but it was enjoyable. Ubud is a big yoga destination, apparently at least in part because of the movie Eat Pray Love.
Another fun and productive day. Pushed some back-end improvements in preparation for Peepeth 2, and then explored around Ubud. This was taken just north of the downtown area. #Bali

Who said China is overpopulated. It's definitely India that has the largest population by now.
Wow! India caught up quickly. I thought India had more like 1.1 billion vs 1.3 for China.
Numbers from 2017 (from Google):
China: 1.386 billion
India: 1.339 billion

A while ago talking to a vegan in a hostel about how when you quit meat you’re forced to become a great cook (because 🌱 taste boring) I like to think I made a step towards that today, because the first thing I noticed about this meal was that it was delicious, not vegetarian.
That's pretty true. I've also found that just eating whole foods makes your palate way more sensitive to otherwise boring things. Especially when cutting out sugar and dairy.

Looks like avocados halved and pitted topped with chia and sesame seeds filled with a chickpea avocado guac topped with boiled dried chickpeas with a dose of olive oil(?) garnished with a fresh mint sprig. Looks amazing and I bet it tastes delish.
Spot on! I thought it could have used some sambal, but it was great and refreshing.

Hah! I’m totally the opppsite. If I’m remotely focused on multiple things at once everything suffers. A little dose of cross pollination is good but I suck at multitasking. This article really resonates for me: http://www.paulgraham.com/makersschedule.html
I'm like that too. Although having different goals in different areas of life (health, learning etc) works for me.

I returned to the avocado place from yesterday. I usually like trying new restaurants but my aim next door was closed, there wasn't much else around, and I like avocado.
Shrines and temples are ubiquitous.

Terraced rice paddies abound around Ubud.

I passed ravines, bridges, forests, terraced rice paddies, small towns. The temperature fluctuated a lot depending on elevation. At one point I turned around because everyone coming from the other direction was drenched or had their windshield wipers on. #bali
I was much happier scooting around the countryside. #dogsofpeepeth
Despite being a tourist myself, tourist traps test my patience. I felt obligated to do the terrace walk since I'd scooted all the way out there, but the sheer quantity of visitors and touts had me bounce pretty quickly.
An old standby, fresh coconut water. The coconuts are huge here. #bali
My new favorite drink. Juma is a mix of fresh turmeric, ginger, sometimes tamarind, lime, and honey.

Had an awesome day today. Integration testing Peepeth 2 in the morning/afternoon (more fun than it sounds), and exploring the countryside by scooter after that. I could get used to this island. #bali
