I am firmly convinced that the Ethereum community will drive innovation further and manage those "growth are the key success" factors! And since Rome wasn't built in a day, ETH should allow itself the time required for successful (right) scaling.
Of course, we're all here for the long haul with Ethereum.

If the price of ETH is correlated to the usage of the chain, then we need some scaling. The network activity can not further increase: https://media.consensys.net/state-of-ethereum-protocol-1-d3211dd0f6
Yep, scaling has to be solved (without sacrificing #decentralization) and if any dev community in the world can achieve it, I believe Ethereum's has the best chance.

I would like to know how your plan on setting up a process that is unbiased. I can think of examples... like people that are into holistic medicine or anti-vac.. I disagree with this point.. but they mean no harm by recommending their POV. How does that play out?
People can use the mute button -- if you don't agree with someone you can mute them, or if you're open to debating them then debate :)

One popular podcaster does away with ads entirely, in favor of user support: https://www.thatseemsimportant.com/content/sam-harris-content-creator-supporting-work-without-running-ads/
“...The one ad I read for a while was for Audible, which I do use and love. But even [then] I don’t feel ... comfortable telling you that you should subscribe to Audible. I mean…should you? Perhaps you shouldn’t? I have no idea. Let that go down as the worst Audible ad ever..."😂

For sure! I enjoy a friendly debate :) It’s not about them making too much it’s that certain content should be enjoyed as intended and not cheapened or distracted by ads. Ideally we should only be consuming ads in the right context, ie shopping, waiting, decision-making, etc.
It's true that our current advertising is not enough to subsidize other services, but with better targeting the right ad at the right time can be worth so much more.

Subsidized? I don't think there is enough revenue from one stream of advertising. Web advertising is junk compared to the podcast and music. I don't remember the last time I visited HI or JRE websites. Are we talking about them making too much money? Because now we have a debate.

What do you think about add all in the front and shortlisted at the back, compared to right in the middle at intervals? Hello Internet is a interval show, while Joe Rogan is up front. I listen to both, and find Joe's easier to fast forward, and listen to the ones on HI.
I'd opt for upfront ads since they're easier to fast forward past. In general though I prefer the revenue model behind basicattentiontoken.org, utilized by Brave.com. Content like music and podcasts should be ad-free, subsidized by ads viewed on other sites / different contexts.

Peepeth's contract is named "Peepeth", but that's about it. You actually don't need a contract to build something like Peepeth. Your real "account" is your Ethereum address, and that's portable between any ETH-based social network.
Sure, but if people want the content they publish to show up in peepeth.com too, wouldn't they want to use the same contract? It would be powerful to see content show up in peepeth that was published via other front-ends.
Replying to @conlan (0xa7f3dfed2bcf7b35a8824e11ae8f723650edfb58)
That would take the pressure off of @bevan to implement future feature requests of lower priority since others could immediately start building their own. (ie DM's, user blocking, hashtag channels, etc)
Personally I'd still continue using and supporting peepeth.com (since I like that it's charity focused) but anyone who currently doesn't agree with its Terms of Use would immediately be free to build their own communities elsewhere :)
Replying to @conlan (0xa7f3dfed2bcf7b35a8824e11ae8f723650edfb58)
Top priority in my mind would be to decouple the contract from peepeth.com (rebrand it something different, ie OpenMicroblogProtocol) and then make it easy as possible for others to build their front ends (open source the frontend code) @bevan

But the underlying platform is unregulated. Anyone can use the contract and write to the platform (https://peepeth.com/front_end), it's only peepeth.com that choses to display specific content that confirms with its terms.

That's a shame and a missed opportunity. I would love to see what a truly unregulated platform would do, with the different communities that coexist.

Thanks for suggesting! Slide to peep is interesting, as is the always-on are-you-sure warnings. Currently, the are-you-sure warnings interrupt the normal pattern; wondering if they'd be effective if they were always on. Maybe there's an optimal frequency.
What about a toggle for folks who want them always on in the settings? “Always ask for my confirmation”

A countdown would be great - currently I either try to give an enso but can't, or assume I can't when I can. Just need it to be more clear 😊
Would be cool if you saw an Enso somewhere on your toolbar and it could either be faded out (when used) or fully opaque (to signal you have it available). Clicking it on the toolbar could also show you all the peeps you've enso-ed in the past. Hovering over could show countdown.

I'm truly curious... do you think Google shows more negative coverage of Trump because they're biased, or because there is just more negative coverage? 🤔🤔🤔
Google's worth ~$700 billion dollars -- they didn't get there by serving biased results to push an agenda, they got there by serving relevant results for the search query. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank

If conservatives don’t like being censored, they can always stop using the services that suppress them. After all, there are decentralized platforms to rant on now 😂🐧👌🏼
Exactly! #Dapps like peepeth allow anyone to build frontend clients for the content — something that is NOT possible with Twitter or Facebook. If someone is not satisfied with this client they can build (or support the efforts of building) their own 💯
Replying to @abcoathup (0x13ebd3443fa5575f0eb173e323d8419f7452cfb1)
Ideally all peeps will be batched by the client. With each peep being added to the batch (rather than waiting to sign 15). Thus we can have more clients. Clients could even share the batching to reduce cost and load on the network.
Sounds good to me, man.

Their top-level peeps won't show in the "New" feed. Also, _maybe_ replies from your followees to their peeps won't show in the "Friends" feed (although I'm not sure about this one). You can still see their peeps by navigating directly to someone else's account feed.
Also in the future there could be spam detection based on a high level of muting for a given user.

I want the time between making a peep and it being onchain as short as possible. This allows other clients to see the peep quickly. I think versioning edit and hide will be required.
+1 on reducing the time from post to onchain!

There was some talk of editing before commit and selective commit at some point. I'm sure the wish list is about a mile long now.
Yeah it's not my biggest feature wish at this time. I'd personally opt for re-branding the underlying smart contract (away from Peepeth) and then publishing documentation for others to use it.

Non-editable peeps are fine, but I don't see the point in them being non-editable before going onto the blockchain (clicking sign & save should be the "real" button imo).
But it's fine, I'll still keep using Peepeth regardless. If enough people want that feature then eventually someone will come along and build their own frontend for Peepeth. That's the beauty of #decentralized social networks.

These would all be gimmicks that are trying to fix something that's not broken. I'm more for pausing a bit, checking what I wrote and then hitting a send button. Reminds me of talking. I think what I want to say, and then say it. We have the control over what we put out here.

interesting that you bring this up -- autocorrect has "trained" us to go on autopilot, essentially. :)

I do! Peepeth is a wonderful place and @bevan has done a kickass job so far. Also if enough folks disagree with Peepeth frontend then they can build one that suits their needs. The beauty of a #decentralized social network :)

Like the idea of adding more friction to posting, yet a slider might too much. Perhaps double click on the button: Before clicking: "Post", After 1 click: "Sure?". Two clicks: "Posted"
Yeah adding a 2nd click with a peep preview would be enough. There's already a confirmation window but it stops being shown after some time. Would be nice to have a toggle for it to always stay on.

I like the idea @conlan! Edit post window open on every post! :)
Awesome! I think it's easier to let people fix their mistakes rather than change their behavior -- modern apps have trained us to rely more on the #machines being perfect rather than ourselves.

Yeah I would agree, before being saved to the blockchain that would be an opportunity to make any corrections.
Editable peeps before blockchain could even be another advanced feature that gets unlocked over time (just like higher character limits) So as you prove yourself you get access to more features @bevan

So if you really want to maintain the finality of peeps, then I've recommended an option to have the confirmation window be always on. You could also add a bit more friction to peeps via UI like a slide-to-peep instead of a button.
Personally I think peeps should be editable / deletable before being saved to the blockchain. When I text or search I just bang it out and let autocorrect sort out the details.
