1178 mosquito nets purchased. If absolutely nothing else comes of Peepeth, that's a pretty cool accomplishment.

I want free peeping for all. With no ETH required. Setting up a new account on GitHub/twitter to then verify is a hoop with no value. It’s only valuable if that account has value/reputation. I like the bond idea but then ETH is required again.

Ah I see you wrote a medium article about it. Reading now.

How would this work? Don't you need ETH in order to save actions to Ethereum?

I mean, look at tobacco products. Plastered with warning labels in most jurisdictions and people still use them. If we made it "illegal" what percent of people would still use tobacco products? What percent would shift to other unhealthy substances instead?

I wouldn't advocate for banning tobacco. You're right, it would probably just create a black market. However, I fully support the warning labels and awareness campaigns. Since we can't ban a smart contract anyway, the best we can do is warn potential victims about the risks

Would we be genuinely helping anyone by stripping away their freedom of choice? I *completely* understand your sentiment and am generally bent in that direction myself. But if people wish to participate in "bad" behaviors, they will always prevail in finding ways to do so...

I'm certain there have been entire books written trying to answer that question.

Even if we had an answer, there's not any way to stop it as far as I'm aware. This is the price, and the benefit of decentralization. Here's hoping the pros far outweigh the cons.

I'm not a big fan of these kind of "games" - but if it thrills people... they should have the freedom to participate. Transparency and freedom - as glad as I am to have them in this space - constantly leave me scratching my head... is that really what people want? 🤷

I'm all for freedom, but I can't support predatory structures. Sure, some people are just gambling. But you know other people will lose their life savings on this. Same as any ponzi/pyramid. Should people be free to get involved with and spread a ponzi scheme that hurts others?

Even if the contract never gets broken, Fomo3D is still a transparent ponzi scheme. You get paid with other people's loss. At some point, the game will end, and a large number of people will lose.

This is very ambitious. I'm not entirely clear about the funding model/roadmap for Space Decentral. It sounds like governance is done through the blockchain. Does it have any other function? How are projects funded? Is the goal to sell ISRU services to other organizations?

Hey Will, thanks! The dividend aspect doesn't change how the core game is solved, but you're right that--given *actual* behavior--it may be very profitable.

It might be profitable, if you're not too late. But it's harmful to the ecosystem and to the poor suckers who will end up paying huge amounts of money for the pot.

Jul 24, 2018 16:37

This is a terrific article. The funny thing is, it dismisses the dividend aspect of F3D, but that is the characteristic that is currently driving growth. They haven't even really gotten close to the "war of attrition" part.

Peepeth is so cozy. Since the user base is small, it feels like I'm seeing a neighbor when I notice the same people one the timeline two days in a row.

It's a win win. If it never gets big, it will never lose that feeling. If it gets huge, well that awesome too! The only bad scenario is if we get just enough users to make it suck and then stagnate. :)

I think the PlutusDEX will have DAI support eventually, don't hold me to that though. TenX and TokenCard, other projects (not live atm, but TenX was briefly before some card issuer drama), have also stated support for Dai in particular.

Ah, it doesn't look like they support US customers? I'll keep an eye on them. As soon as I find a crypto debit card that works for me (especially if it has a stablecoin), you can bet I'll use it.

Both provide crypto-fiat debit cards. Wirex also does a custodial wallet for Bitcoin and Litecoin, and Plutus is building a DEX (here in etherland).

Do either of them have any plans to integrate a stablecoin like Dai? If so, I'd start using them immediately for almost all transactions.

Wow...I think Gilfoyle in the newest Silicon Valley episode said it best when it came to crypto...that maybe the reason Buffett and other investors talk so badly about crypto is because they have $90 billion in paper assets to protect

I'm not sure if I actually buy that argument. Buffett is 87 years old and Munger's in his 90s. Neither of them is going to be around long enough for cryptos to be a threat to fiat. They're at no risk of losing anything because of crypto.
