"To be unbanked is not to simply have access to a cash based society..

It is to lack connectivity to the rest of the world

To lack the ability to participate in trade and commerce

To get a job

To build a future for your children

It is to be condemed to poverty"

Thank you for sharing @ligi!

Say for example you have to leave right now (it's an emergency) and cannot take any belongings. You're going to flee to another country. You can only take a paper wallet with $100 of crypto, no other currency. Which crypto would you take?

Bitcoin, this should be a no brainer, it's the most easy to exchange.
Install @Trust, import private key, Bitrefill.com to 'cash out' or a Bitcoin ATM.

Had a dream this morning. That I went to the city, but forgot my clothes, and didn’t have any money. Then I woke up at 6am heart pacing and remembered the 2 things I forgot to note on my calendar: a change of clothes and debit card (used to unlock train ticket). Funny how our brains help us like that

Fun portugese facts:
- Meat (carne) is feminine
- "The bananas" can be translated as "as bananas", which sounds like "ass bananas"
- The word for bull is 'boi', which means the YEAH BOI meme is slightly confusing
- The word for donkey is the same for the Italian word for butter; burro

I love these reminders. However, it's quite hard to keep "memento mori" (or any other idea for that matter) top of mind, and emotionally salient, as we go about our day. How to instill that thought at a deep level so that it can meaningfully direct our actions? Or is 1x/week enough?

Just ask yourself in the morning, if I'm gonna die tomorrow how am I gonna change how I spend today? Usually motivates me to back up my computer and send a few appreciation notes to my friends/family

I try to live my life as though I may die at any given interval from any given point, or 'well screw it let's have fun and enjoy ourselves because we might just end up dead tomorrow.' I don't believe in saving for the future or playing into capitalist schemes like debt neither

One reason crypto will emerge dominant is because of gross overuses of power and control like this. It's your money, why should someone else be able to censor it? This is hopefully also why Libra will be shut down, mind you, because nodes can do as they please...

Hell yeah, I agree!

Is there some way you can preemptively call Visa and tell them not to block your card?

Done, they said no (for more than 48 hours)

Damn wtf why

I'm from New Zealand, they see my card being used in random European countries, decide that means I'm being scammed. No rhyme or reason. I've asked them many times to turn off the scam protection and they say they can't - over 48 hours. I don't care, I use it as fuel for why I'm working full-time on crypto.

Last weekend I met some lovely police officers thanks to VISA and a kind off duty cop

VISA blocked my card, no public transport, no Uber, couldn’t top up my phone, 11pm, 3 hour walk, open road. Was certainly an adventure

I hear you. Why do you think that is? (re: breakthroughs the day after a bad day) After a slog of a day yesterday (productivity-wise), I feel like I have my mojo back.

Well there’s the whole subconscious thing of getting worked up and frustrated over a problem then having your brain work overtime on it while you sleep... also, mental exhaustion can make you more creative.

It also may not be a real pattern at all since often breakthroughs follow breakthroughs too.

It always feels sweeter succeeding after you fail at something too, of course. So it’s easier to remember them.

Nope lol

Jul 28, 2019 01:21

You have 7 years to live. How do you use them?

Jul 28, 2019 01:19

My work breakthroughs are always after the days where I get to the point of wanting to give up. My best workout results are always after the days I feel weak & frustrated with myself. I usually have my best travel experiences after getting annoyed with a place/people.

I wish I was more patient. Social media doesn't help.

Then again I'm glad I lacked the patience to go to university or stay at my old job.

Jul 27, 2019 15:35

Have been getting more into religion since the Christchurch massacre, and while I'm not convinced holy texts like the Bible/Quran/Bhagavad Gita are literally true I think they're symbolically true. People found them important enough to pass down. It's important we understand all beliefs so we don't hate people different to us - that's one of the responsibilities of freedom.

This quote in particular I love.

What area of Brazil are you going to?

Goiania first, then Sao Paolo - maybe Recife.

Basically Brazil just sounds like a more dangerous version of the U.S... massive country, diverse people, good and bad.

And U.S. is plenty safe and worth visiting!

Getting a lot of advice about 🇧🇷 from conflicting sources. Most recently: tales of how I, despite not being American, will be considered ripe “gringo” fruit for the scamming.

I’m sure the scams will prove more funny than offensive though. As for the biggest danger I see, it’s gotta be robbers/extorters assuming I’m rich b/c I’m into BTC or from NZ. Even that isn’t that bad… more likely to lose laptop than my life.

My current (centralised) profiles:
https://instagram.com/satsearcher

All of these I’d much prefer were decentralised. When we could choose our clients and what we saw. But hey, crypto’s a long term game.
