How does one mint them?
Through the giveaway (see @cache's peep) you can get 50 CACHE for free and then you have to convert ETH to CACHE, but it's really cheap. And you only need a single CACHE for each game. On the other hand to create your profile you need 100 CACHE.

Followers and your follows yes. But since the @-mentions are part of the peeps text they won't point to your new profile I would guess.

For edit, I think all versions will still be available and it works like an update, the latest version is the one displayed on the front-end but you can crawl through all versions of the peep. Again, @bevan would need to confirm my explanation.

The hide feature would only be front-end wide if I understood correctly what they discussed. So through another front-end or by querying directly through the blockchain and IPFS the peep is still available. @bevan would need to confirm my explanation.
