Your president is an ass. Your entire system is corrupt. Your foreign policy is openly hostile. But you want sympathy??

LOL! So fucking true. And yet, it is mostly the poor, old, and otherwise vulnerable people who are suffering. We should have sympathy for individuals living in the most sophisticated oligarchy in history.

Wanna know from anyone: if u live in los Angeles why is there so much grid lock traffic between the times of 3p-8p Monday thru friday? I may have the answer to it but would like to hear yours before I tell you mine

Going out on a limb here, but maybe because people are getting off work, getting out of school, or otherwise transitioning resulting in the need to move via a car because the US has no public transport?

I like your garden so much! For my eyes, yours is a kind of Zen garden. Also, this reminds me of natural beauty of roadside wild plants.

Yes, I need the Zen element! It is so cold and dark and dreary here in the winter, so I made this little garden.

Some of the plant are house plants, some garden, some are sprouting from seeds I took from weeds from the side of the road in northern Japan. The seedlings are wild. You have: citrus, lavender, yam, spider, local veggie, and wild weed.

I've only had it going for a few weeks, and started in the middle of winter in a dark apartment with one low watt bulb, so it's a challenge, but I like a challenge. Life will find a way!

I was wondering how much progress I could make on any given pursuit if I only had an hour per day to work on it. I think on a per hour basis, more would get done at one hour per day because you’d presumably prioritize more, and your subconscious is probably working on it in the off time. But then there’s context switching cost, so who knows.

So to answer your question, I would do what absolutely must be done next, what can wait no longer. If I cannot do that and maintain quality, I cut back on the work I take in.

OK, defined. I work a second job, and limited time has this effect. I'm highly efficient because I have so little time to spend on it. I prioritize. I do the bare minimum for the maximum benefit. I cut corners that can be cut. And it works. Everyone is happy. I'm experienced.

Well, define work. If I only had an hour a day to do any activity, assuming the rest of the day I'd be confined to a room, I'd garden.

Interesting. I read that an over-the-counter pain killer (Tylenol?) can reduce some forms of mental pain. The point being that there’s a shared underlying pain mechanism for both forms of pain (or at least some overlap).

Absolutely. Pain relief definitely calms the mind. The relief of physical pain is the best drug! Yet, most of my memories are related to mental states, not physical. Mental/emotional pain forms stronger memories than physical pain, unless the physical pain is profound, of course.

I hear you. I’d be tempted to make the same choice. But I’m curious to what extent mental pain is useful, and what life would look like without it.

Indeed. Fear is certainly useful, and if we didn't have physical pain we'd quickly die of injury. But it seems that our brains needlessly amplify fear.

I've been thinking lately about how mental pain is worse than physical pain. If you could choose to eradicate only one in your life, which would you choose?

By mental pain, I am including all forms of mental discomfort, from the menial to the severe: anxiety, boredom, anger, frustration, sadness, depression, dysphoria, etc.

Very nice. Thanks for sharing. At the end of my 5th decade, and my partner and I have quit making long term plans for this reason. We have a pretty good idea of what's going to happen in the next eight months, barring any unforeseen events. Beyond that, it's a beautiful mystery.
