I’ve been enjoying using Peepeth lately. It really shows how good Web3 UX can be 👌
Agreed. Usually sending transactions or signing messages really interrups your flow of using a dApp. Peepeth solved this really elegantly by allowing you to take 15 actions before you need to sign the messages.

This quiet pond several thousand feet above Bergen was a portal to another dimension. I dove in and came out another man, walking through another land, and still often wonder where I actually am. What place(s) have transformed you?

Hey Andrew! Not yet, but that's coming soon.
You might want to look at keybase.io they do pretty much exactly that.
Though I don't know how much effort it would be to adapt what they do to work with peepeth.

Thanks! I think it should be possible to sync Ethereum in a high latency mode. Not a thing I want to attack right now - but I am pretty sure it is possible - would need some work though and you would always be some blocks behind - x>(latency/block_time)
There will probably be a lot of development until we are in a position where we realistically have to think about these kinds of things.
Sidechains might just do the trick without opening many vulnerabilities due to being out of sync.

For those that have a Twitter and decide to link it. The idea is to move away from Twitter and Facebook.
True. Yet some situations might require you to stay active on other platforms, e.g. you are a content publisher and depend on reaching your audience to maintain your income.

.. and hacking on @peepdroid so it can get the a "Space/High latency/Decentralized" mode where the central PeepETH servers are not used and we can maybe get a better UX when being far away from Earth - very early mainly conceptual stage - but also improving @peepdroid and ..
Awesome idea! IPFS is exactly right for that kind of usecase.
I wonder about the role of blockchain in your scenario. Todays blockchains would not be able to operate in that environment for exactly the reasons you described. Any ideas how this could be resolved?

My first peep =) Thanks @peepeth team and @vbuterin for making this revolution possible!
Welcome :)
But don't forget @juanbenet in your honorable mentions ;)

I feel there needs to some unique mechanisms to make this place attractive. Simply being a Twitter clone where Peeps are forever kept immutably is not really enough. I don't think people really care if their Tweets aren't immutable since they already trust Twitter.
I like your thinking
Peepeth takes a bit of getting used to. There were a couple of posts I would have liked if they were on Twitter, but I wasn't willing to "spend" my enso on them.
Interesting to see this dynamic of #sparcity on #SocialMedia

This progress is awesome.
We still hava long way to go. Going from traction among developers to traction & adoption among average people is a big step.
We need much more work on #design and #userexperience for dapps.

I Just lost 1500$ in gambling, feeling depressed :(
Feels bad man. But this is why one should only gamble if one has a proofen way of shifting the odds in ones favor so the expected outcome becomes net positive.
But then again, that is not really gambling anymore.
Wait... Just so I get this right... Peepeth shows me all posts and replies from every user?
Is there a way for me to limit/filter what I see in the newsfeed?

The idea of social media with permanent, undeletable posts can be a bit overwhelming for some / lots of people. We'll see how it goes :)
Welcome!
True. But I don't think it is all that different for existing social media. If you post something regretable, it might just stay around as a meme for years, even if you take down the original.
As you say, we'll see how it goes :)

I've never really been able to follow how IPFS hosts are compensated.
Filecoin is meant to be incentivation for IPFS. I can only speak conceptually, as I never used filecoin myself
You offer coins to people who store your files. It is checked regularly, whether they still host your files and they are paid over time for keeping the files available.

I've never really been able to follow how IPFS hosts are compensated.
In the protocol compensation is not specified at all. Usually you just host the files you like and want to be available.
However they realized there is a large need for permanently storing files and having them available. This is where Filecoin comes into play.

The cost of transaction fees for batches of peeps is relatively low. Also the fees are the same if there is one peep or one billion peeps. https://medium.com/@abcoathup/evolution-of-decentralised-social-media-dfe567d23e54
I am not really worried about fees. As you say, they are relatively low for submitting batches.
However, I wonder about the long-term storage on IPFS. With a growing userbase quite a bit of content will accumulate. Usually people don't host your information for free.
I enjoy watching the shift from Crypto to Blockchain. To me Crypto represents the old economic paradigm of capitalism and Blockchain represents a new paradigm. A paradigm of shared goods and a collaborative effort for a better future for all of us. #future
