I have my eye on a piece.

Cool! You can even get some of the editions for free, like this one: https://dada.nyc/artgallery/20

#501 here, have some original content.

Like it :-)

Do you guys know dada.nyc? It's a #cryptoart related website, who sells #digitalArt and also lets artists communicate in a visual way. You can check out my drawing called "At the Nightclub" here: https://dada.nyc/sh/6U_um5C6

Apologies for the confusion, thinking & typing at the same time doesn't always work haha. New to digital art sales and currently interested in it myself. Wondering if it's a dynamic process when viewing then purchasing art and how limited print works. Will read pt 1+2 as well.

No problem ;-) It's not an automated process right now. You would offer your artwork for example through twitter or the like using a lowres picture and when someone buys it, he will get access (including download) of the hires version on bitmark or ascribe.

Couldn't a digital art market be secured via staking? For an artist to sell "original" works on chain they have to stake eth as a guarantee of originality. Then in cases of dispute an oracle/random jury could evaluate the timestamps on chain and the fraud would lose their stake.

That's an interesting idea. The underlying SPOOL ledger of Ascribe.io for example is opensource, so anyone could build a platform, that uses smart-contracts or the like to make sure, that the artist only gets payed, when he signs his work with e.g. the correct public key.

I don't know, if I get you right, but if you buy a hires version, you would probably keep that relatively safe and only use it for printing or exhibiting it. If you purchased a lowres version from a content theft, you can't do very much about that.

You should definitely get in contact with the artist via his official website or twitter, before you buy any digital edition.

Thank you for the insight.

Thanks for the interesting question ;-) This market is pretty new, so there are quite a few things to think about.

I've recently thought of that. Would there be a way to swap out the low-res version with a hi-res one when purchased?

Thanks a lot for your tip and your feedback! I'd usually publish a lowres version of my work on my blog, but upload the best possible resolution to those registration services. That way I could probably proof, that it's my work.

Usually I also would have some original files of the programs, I used to create my digital works. But you're right, those registration services don't require authentication, so you will have to trust the person, you're going to buy an artwork from, that he's not someone else.

Ty for the content! So, do you see any issues with the process of buying/selling digital art through blockchain services like the ones you mentioned? E.g. what keeps me from stealing something that is not registered through bitmark yet and registering it under my name?

There is a #bug that duplicate hash tags don’t get picked up. I think hashtags and links don’t play well yet either.

I second this. But maybe I'm just used to existing social media paradigms...so I keep looking for a <strong>like</strong> button

Me too, as it's not only a way of showing my appreciation of a peep, but also a way of bookmarking the one's that I like.

@bevan - I have an idea for your site. You can create a free ERC20 token at onhexel.com (only pay the gas) and use this token to give to people for certain reasons (# of Peeps, implemented suggestions, etc.) The only cost is the gas and it's pretty low (3 - 8 cents).

Thanks for bringing that up. I didn't know about onhexel.com yet and it looks very interesting. I second, that it could be a fun addition to Peepeth.

Peepers seems to be the go but try out different words until something sticks. Welcome aboard.

Thanks, peepers sounds legit. So a status message would be a peep then?

Apr 06, 2018 10:35

Hello peeps, peeperth, peeparians? However, thanks for the invite!
I'm happy to see more and more decentralized social media services popping up :-)
