Hello. I am new here. How does it works here?
It's like twitter except without ads

Sorry, need to change that. Correct link is https://bit.ly/2BHh5c2. The other one was the old entry on producthunt.

Name one #DApp you're excited about that has yet to hit main net.
Augur: once decentralized prediction markets are live, the entire world will be able to trigger blockchain smart contracts from real world events through a decentralized Oracle.

Dammit... I'm a sucker for card collecting. Guess I have to play it :p
They're pulling a lot on hearthstone's visual style. I hope that doesn't bite them since this looks incredibly polished and I love CCGs

I find NFTs (ERC-721) incredibly fascinating. Here's what i've been attempting to #BUIDL in my free time lately: https://congreth.now.sh/. It's my first ethereum side-project I hope to bring to mainnet. Non-Fungible Tokens of US Congress Members, feedback welcome.
This is hilarious. I love seeing people submit their eth side projects, definitely want to encourage this. #kudos

Anyone else on here a philosopher? Really curious to do some reading about the metaphysics of blockchain tech (mostly so I don't have to write it myself)!
I'm not a philosopher, but I quite enjoy the regular perusal of existentialcomics.com and learning about various thinker's perspectives on the world.

Shameless promo for sharding development: https://github.com/Drops-of-Diamond/diamond_drops. Also more people working on Casper CBC is needed for sustainability of Ethereum, however sharding probably needs to be developed first since that's easier than developing Casper CBC first
Thanks for hopping into this community and sharing your work. Keep on, keeping on!

If he can snag Peep.eth and host the entire thing in a decentralized manner at some point - then everyone can just be happy. In the meantime, the name is so much less critical than the work and ideas the site is exploring. If successful: there will be many names, many front ends
I'm not up to date with ENS, but when will 4 letter namespaces be available? Peep.eth would be the perfect address for the main smart contract.
In the meantime, https://instantdomainsearch.com/domain/extensions/#search=peep shows quite the plethora of available TLDs for peep.

I’m going to take a small bow. Though 80/20. (Or even 95/5). Ideas are one thing, execution is another. I emailed @bevan on 10th May. Just over two weeks later it was up and running. Less than three weeks total it was rolled out. Big clap for @bevan
Big thanks to you and @bevan for making this ecosystem even better and better. Peepeth is my favorite example to show the potential of dapps by explaining the paradigm shift in both motivation and execution. The best visual for how other disruptive platforms can be built.

This is an important step forward for the UX of decentralized social media. Though I wonder if Peepeth should retain a micro-cost for posts to prevent spam.
Also an interesting approach with the emergence of fee-less blockchain UX (EOS/NEO) and showing how ethereum developers can modify their dapps to provide a similar experience.

You can change your username from settings on Peepeth. Also, username transfers are already operational on the back end as far as I understand it.
Oh fantastic! I was unaware, thanks for the correction.

A problem I foresee with early adopters of peepeth is private key management. Most signup on desktop using metamask, yet that same account is likely attached to several other dapps. Going forward, we need a way to migrate a username to other wallets. Perhaps similar to ENS.
Despite this, cross-platform works quite well. I regularly use/check peepeth on mobile after importing my metamask seed.
New users to peepeth should generate a new seed exclusively for peepeth.

Is it worth to pay the price for a botless Twitter?
I think that's missing the point. Peepeth's design also doesn't need ads to sustain itself. Twitter uses algorithms to shuffle the order of tweets to create a skinnerbox, encouraging endless scrolling so that you'll see more ads. Additionally, anyone can create a peep frontend

Don't make crypto the main character, find your main character(s), humans, real people, find their conflicts, motivations, dramas, etc., take their/the two or three main storylines, then figure out how crypto fits into that. How does crypto create/partake/solve those conflicts.
I agree with @d2r2, the stories behind people in crypto is already engaging and interesting enough. No need for abstraction :D

One idea for GDPR, a peep or a peeper could be marked as hidden and all clients that comply with GDPR don’t show them.
I could be incorrect, but I don't think peepeth already complies with #GDPR since @brevan isn't storing your data. People are registering their "peeps" directly to the ethereum "database", and thus wouldn't be much different than a software wallet (which you hold your own keys)

How should we govern Ethereum? Exploring the uncharted territory of building decentralized systems.
You can't escape politics when dealing with human systems, but the meta decisions we make today will become the foundation for solving future problems.
What percentage of the coin is held by the top 100 wealthiest accounts? Great measure of actual decentralization of a coin and it's global distribution. We aren't building this revolution to enrich a small few.

I used to be so pro-conference. The theory was that they were great for making contacts. But the truth is I always find myself either talking to no one or talking too long to the wrong people. There doesn't seem to be a good solution.
Sometimes though, the best way to make initial contact is through an in person introduction. Afterwards it's much easier to connect and collaborate remotely.

Will see if we get tribes on peepeth, I like the idea.
Perhaps this could be a simple front-end filter? https://peepeth.com/front_end
Tribes would be a great example how to create a curated community (and also demonstrating how moderation tools work on a platform without censorship).

I never set out to do a photo series on #Fences. I was thinking through designs and barriers for users. I tried to take a photo of the train and the fence got in the way. Then I looked at the amazing detail and the beauty in the fence. https://peepeth.com/t/fences
You gave me an idea: #drone
I recently got a Mavic Air because the idea of being able to get 4K footage of any perspective I want, using a very portable drone, gave me so many ideas. (http://dean.red)

If we're taking bets, I'm gonna guess just him, or him and one other person who helps out.
Even if it's a team of less than 5, think about what this means in terms of human history. The ability of a few to program THE idealist free-speech microblogging platform that twitter could never be. No need for advertising to sustain the platform. No need to lock down front end.

It's not about the consensus model here but about the nature of IOTA's tangle which often requires multiple rebroadcasts to get a transaction confirmed. That's why i consider blockchain to be more reliable than IOTA's tangle.
I appreciate it the alternative approach to building a blockchain with a focus on (eventual throughput), but it does make for a short term poor experience.
Having said that, I'm still glad the IOTA team is taking on the challenge because if they succeed, we all win.

How can we keep the small community feel as the number of peepers grows? At the least, good (decentralized) moderation tools are a requirement
I'm excited to see the first peepeth frontend fork with it's own whitelisting. Would be good to have multiple sites provide multiple ways to access the network
