unfortunately, probably not. a lot of people take the risk of buying in certain areas down there where companies will not insure the properties. but they know what they are buying and where they are living. the community will rally for sure.
it's hard to look at something so beautiful when it's also very sad. ๐๐

Completely agree. Peepeth has the power to be that app, though gas prices during congestion could still impact use.

hey, thanks for the tip @veox. you are very kind. more videos have surfaced this morning (3rd eruption broke out earlier) and i just wanted to share from a human and scientific perspective. nature is wonderful yet scary and we need to respect it if we are going to live among it.

Thanks for the background. I was looking at Google maps and some of the residential areas looked fairly recent, hence the question.
true, there might have been more recent development depending on who has chosen to sell, who has inherited, etc. not all of it is off-limits, so some with money are inevitably going to settle/retire as well. but if anything, lava creates new land and they will re-build. :)

thank you! the state has been having some major weather/occurrences so far this year. in any case, from a scientific perspective, the eruption is fascinating and beautiful in its dangerous nature. hoping that everyone can maintain a respectful distance and help those in need.

I'm struggling to understand this. Why do people build residential areas so close to active volcanoes? Or was the volcano considered inactive?
people have been settled here for centuries and know that they have willingly decided to live very close to a volcano with fluctuating activity. a lot of this land is designated for native hawaiians only and has been theirs for generations and it may be all that they ever have.

it's been a while since i've felt an earthquake on this side of the island but they definitely do occur. i live on the west side but know people with property down south and near the volcano. it's dark now so i hope everyone is staying safe.

I feel the same. Itโs a barrier. The answer in my mind is to just keep peeping. Peep when you are happy, peep when you are sad, peep when you are tired. Just keep peeping. If you peep they will come. If I forget, remind me to just keep peeping.
