This morning along the river, I rode over a stretch of steel grating which clicked-clacked, which I accompanied with choo-choo's just loud enough for me to smile to.

It isn't merely biscuit with a glass of milk, but the exquisite taste of milk mingling with biscuit crumbs from the previous bite, and the pleasurable mouthfeel of biscuit after a fresh gulp of milk.

Life may be captured in snapshots but is lived in the transitions between them

The secret to an effective to-do list is...

You.
Actually.
Doing.
The.
Things.
On the list.

If you do the things, they will be done.

Day 8 off caffeine. Love waking up to post-caffeinated energy levels instead of bumbling through until I get my morning dose.

Apr 30, 2018 22:46

It's Friday here. It will be Friday for you soon. Happy Friday! Hope you've had a good week.

Excellent write up! 👍

Glad you liked it @bob, and thanks for the tip! Can you think of other technical topics you think I could have a go at writing a gentle intro to?

Thanks for sharing Issac! I did the same thing for a bit. Curious what was your motivation for quitting caffeine? For me it was feeling too jittery. Did you resort to any kind of substitute?

The jitter and energy crash played a part. Ultimately it was the dependence on it that motivated me to go off. No direct substitute, just noticed more snacking.

Apr 26, 2018 03:02

Oh I wrote a gentle, low-technobabble introduction to containers (the Docker kind). Let me know how I went!

Day 4 off caffeine. Hasn't been easy, but getting easier with each passing day. Based on previous experiences, it takes at least 7 days before I'm back to "normal". That daily caffeine boost comes at a very dear price, no doubt!

Apr 26, 2018 01:52

I'm getting a slight delay in activating Alfred.app via hotkey after upgrading to macOS High Sierra. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Apr 23, 2018 05:50

Oh in other less sleepy news, 3rd-party replacement battery for Thinkpad has arrived. I'll be pleased if it holds a decent charge and doesn't explode in my lap.

Excited for the possibilities that this week will bring. Happy Monday Peepers!

This Monday I'm feeling sleepy because I've started going off caffeine again. Weeks don't need to start perky and that is okay. Happy Monday.

Morning and Happy Friday, y'all fabulous Peep{le/ers}!

Thanks for my very first Ensō, @john! Now can someone please show me what to do with it?

Apr 19, 2018 04:01

Protip: to not feel like shit after ingesting an inordinate amount of caffeine, drink lots of water.

Oh, shout out to @tomnash and @flex for playing excellent hosts. Web3 Melbourne Weekly Hack is a great learning/collaborating space for web3 and solidity development. Thanks for having me.

Just did a live demo of scaling up our production ec2 instances and ecs containers at company townhall this morning. Clocked in at under 4 minutes. Buzzing high from that rush.

Peepeth experts: how do I link the same account on desktop and mobile (Toshi)?

You do it by having the same wallet loaded up on both desktop and mobile (using the wallet's passphrase or private key). It's not technically "linking". More like having the same "identity" on both devices.

I'm preparing some material to explain containerisation (the Docker kind) to largely non-technical audience. How would you describe the awesomeness of containerisation in non-technical terms?

.@bevan Since the account URLs are simply "peepeth.com/handle", what will happen once somebody registers @stats, @how or @about since these pages already link to other resources? (Ex. "peepeth.com/about" already links to a resource but should then link to the user.)

I reckon it would be a case of reserving a set of those "handles" such that they can't be registered (e.g. https://twitter.com/about). Although it might be a little trickier if these handles were stored on the blockchain.

The no-edit, no-delete, peeps cost something model is really growing on me. Love it.

I can see how that the immutable and (relatively) costly nature of peeps would give a similar effect. IRL actions are practically immutable, and every act costs the actor something.

The no-edit, no-delete, peeps cost something model is really growing on me. Love it.

I'm reminded of a time when I ran a tiny (100+ member) private online community that had high-quality interactions and was mostly free of abuse because we used real names and knew each other IRL and those decencies carried across pretty well.

As I just discovered the hard way, are there any options for editing peeps and correcting typos before they are saved to the blockchain?

Nope. Don't worry, we've mostly been through that (I know I have). I suspect prior to saving to the blockchain, your peep is saved to ipfs which is already immutable.

9 Thinkpad X201 trackpads could technically fit on a single 2017 MBP trackpad. On the other hand, the X201's keyboard probably has what feels like 9x the travel compared to the MBP's. #tradeoffs

Proud moment from the week that's just gone by. If you're part of an engineering team that practices Code Reviews, you'll know how special it was for the team to have a cleared out Code Review column mid-sprint. (It's like Inbox Zero, but you can't cheat).
