I like when people peep their "hello world" because their profile is basically a shortcut to see how many peeple are on the network. Looks like we're 1300+ strong and counting. Pretty cool.

Massive missed opportunity on the first people --> peeple.

Does anyone else get an itchy trigger finger and just save to blockchain at like 13-14 actions?

The decentralized marshmallow test.

Hopefully we we will see solutions using secure computation that give the best of both worlds where users can freely switch across platforms but also have some control over the ability to selectively give consent for services to use data.

There’s still a long ways to go, but the tools are starting to take shape. To Peep is to live forever.

The lack of privacy in the current implementation of peepeth is something for users to remember. All the ideas I’m posting, which will potentially be completely dumb in a year, will be saved basically indefinitely. Fun!

The obvious backlash against these institutions makes right now a perfect time for these alternatives. Maybe our laws will reflect the need for better user control of data, but my bet is on decentralized tech getting there first.

Moderation is a key area where multiple competing implementations could provide benefits. Social media is in a sort of in the monarch phase right now where a few kings decide the flow of information between users in their tightly controlled kingdoms.

For lasting success it’ll be necessary to have, and I expect to see, further improvements to the point where it is so cheap that it’s essentially free to the user who doesn’t even have to make the mental calculation. These improvements could come from Peepeth, Ethereum, L2, etc

One drawback is the small cost imposed on the user because writing to the blockchain costs money. I like the clever strategy to bundle 15 actions together so I only have to pay 1/15th of the time.

The appealing part of this is that the switching costs for users should be much lower here than for networks like FB and TW where data can’t be ported to a new frontend.

The idea is that anyone could implement a different frontend implementation with different UI, moderation, fee structure, etc that has access to the same data which now lives on the “blockchain”.

Some initial thoughts on Peepeth (thread): Peepeth is a frontend implementation of a twitter-like interface using an Ethereum smart contract to publish links to content on IPFS — which is open and permissionless.

Ditto! I can't tell you the amount Campbell's soup scams I've been be defrauded of

Same. This one guy told me he had thousands of Campbell's soup cans hidden in the desert. Turns out it was just a bunch of empty cans inside of slightly larger empty cans.

This blockchain stuff is a total scam. Cryptocurrencies have no inherent value. A useful currency needs to have inherent value, like gold, fiat currency, or nonperishables like paintings of Campbell's soup cans.

Proof of Campbell's soup is the future.

So I don't know much about bitcoin nor the blockchain. I know a little. Maybe enough to pretend to be knowledgeable in passing conversation. I know even less about Ethereum. Can you guys share some (in your opinion) helpful reading lists? Maybe there's a tip in it for u #balling
