If you're here on Peepeth, I'm gonna go out on a limb and presume you're looking for some change in the world and are pretty comfortable with blockchain.
If that rings true, you might consider joining us over at OpenZeppelin... we're a global team of passionate people, devoted to keeping the blockchain space secure and accessible for all.
If you're interested, but not sure that you'd be a good fit, reach out and let's chat.

Word has that the COVID19 situation has been especially stressful for the Flat Earth Society. They fear that the social distancing measures could push people over the edge... 🥁
Thanks for the chuckle.

Thank you kindly. I would love to talk about decentralisation @CallMeGwei. It would be my honour. t.me/Minima_Global We are trying to solve all the big problems within blockchain, as it is now, and offer our solution in Minima. Would love to pick your brains a little! #Minima

In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule. - Nietzsche
Wonderful first peep...

@bevan am I seeing this correctly... you only have a one day peep streak?!

So, let's talk about friction...
Last time I was on Peepeth I set up MetaMask in Brave to interface with my hardware wallet. I migrated my Peepeth handle to an address controlled by the hardware wallet... I was feeling quite secure. (And rather oblivious to how complicated that sounds... but that's another story.)
I haven't really peeped since.
Moral of the story - friction is good when it comes to an identity, but with the delegate feature of Peepeth you can have your cake and eat it too.

What's up Peepeth people? Hit me with one word to describe your life this week. Mine is 'agitated.' Not the most positive thing but just being honest. Looking forward to the weekend!

Trying Atom today, a new-to-me code editor. What's your favorite editor?
What are you coming from?
I like VSCode for speed. The ability to share a live coding session cross-platform is also really nice.
When I'm doing python stuff, I seem to prefer PyCharm. Actually, Jetbrains stuff in general is good - just a lot heavier. [I have been thinking of trying some solidity development in one of their tools...]
For a long time I was doing most of my web work in Notepad++ ... can't say that I miss it though.

Sounds cool but haven't dabbled. What are some interesting automations?
Simple things like turning lights on and off with the sunrise and sunset... or making sure the lights are off if the room has been empty a while.
You can get more creative... like dimming the lights when you start playing a movie, or un-dimming when you pause for a break.
Sky's the limit, really. You could have your lights flash if you got a peepeth message. :-)

Any home automation fans on Peepeth?
On a related note: Home Assistant vs openHAB... thoughts?

Did you know that #Facebook is able to know the time you wake up and the time you are in the office simply by monitoring your #Whatsapp usage? Avoiding it is simple. There are excellent alternatives. Download signal.org today and recommend it to your friends. #privacyMatters
What do you think about Keybase?
I appreciate you spreading these privacy facts and then suggesting alternatives.

So, given that humanitarianism is a constant, science is giving us more power to destroy ourselves. Because our humanitarianism is not increasing, and our environment is dying, we will use our science for tribal survival, hence nuclear or bio war. Science is increasing.
The power to wield science has simply been concentrated too much. It's been hijacked for profit and control of people in most cases. Most _individuals_ aren't proposing wars of any sort - on the contrary, they want peace and equality.
If we fail to dismantle dangerous/reckless power structures and redistribute that power to individuals, then we're going to have ever-more problems on our hands. I think your concerns are valid, but the cause is slightly mis-attributed.

What if we deactivated all social accounts 5 tech-scandals ago? This is silly nilly useless.
Civil disobedience needs to be more commonplace than it is.
The world needs to start throwing a fit over the older generations and/or power-mongers legislating nonsense. They're wasting time, money, and demolishing mutual respect with invasive laws.

Say this to the mothers that don't have to prepare their kids' funerals bc we have vaccines, water standard, heated homes, no famine in the modern (science-equipped) world. I think most people feel way more charitable with full belies&no vindictive gods ruling the world = science

Unpopular opinion for sure. I disagree. Yes today we still have the capacity to kill, torture, rape, dehumanise, genocide - but so did our ancestors, and they were much more prone to it. If anything we live a little disconnected and unevolved for our current world... but we aren't worse people. Society has progressed.
I can agree with you there, @scaur
We treated each other horribly thousands of years ago! Women had no rights, we bought and sold *people*, we farmed for lords, we fought over insults to kings.
We've come a long way.
Science has taught us to think more critically, to analyze information regardless of source, to dissect facts, and reexamine opinions.
Now, it hasn't all been roses... and we don't know our bread bakers name anymore - but that's more a fault of business organization than science, imho.
Computing/Science is going to reorganize that soon.

#lkie Awesome! What's the structure of the course?
The structure of the course is ~three-hour sessions twice a week via a conference call / screen sharing session. Hands on, collaboration, and pushing yourself seem to be the name of the game. No pre-recorded material afaik, no walls of text - learn by doing and shoot for doing important-ish things from the start.

You're a first-rate community builder and maintainer (as evidenced here on Peepeth). They're lucky to have you!
Finding someone curious and kind enough to explore *with* users while making everyone feel welcome is no small task. Those are also both things you excel at.
Looking forward to bugging you over there. Congratulations!
Truffle University has begun. There were at least two Peepeth users admitted. Yesterday was just covering the basics... but the "vibe" and the intention of the course are very clear - and exciting. Hope it becomes an often-running thing in the space.

If you think visiting is a annoying... ah, nevermind. It's just too bad policy makers are tearing the world apart instead of bringing it together.
I was bouncing around SE Asia and collecting fingerprints / pictures is 'normal'. If no one cared to throw a fit from the start, it's not surprising it just gets worse and worse.

Pretty interesting #privacy service from #Apple #privacyMatters #WWDC19
But then... Apple has access to your forwarded emails, right? So you're trading one company and aspect of privacy for another (never mind the fact that the biggest email privacy concern is probably the 'free' email service that's the final destination.)
With their pull, they could probably mandate app's email users strictly with pgp / encryption AND then get those messages to users.

The effort doesn't matter in those examples. The road still gets built. I'm not saying that money = effort. It's intangible, risky, and the stuff we're using right now is constantly inflating. Cryptos might get hacked in the future. But I am saying that it represents value. I don't give it a moral aspect, it's neutral. However, there are moral benefits - we live in a much better society today than 100 yrs ago.
I enjoy reading as you delineate exactly what you're thinking.
I can't argue that money represents value - that's something like it's functional definition. It's also a much more palatable claim than we started with. :-)
Replying to @satsearcher (0x6348dbea8987c27f8462755e493f64d99c28dd05)
I do lean on the side of view that we're responsible for & able to change our situations, even though that isn't always true. Why? That belief is needed in order for anyone to change their situation. Regarding Bitcoin, it depends how much it's worth in 100 years. Potentially yes.
I guess, philosophically, I'm more inclined to attribute value to active vs passive activities. I'm also more inclined to weigh things like intentions and means rather than lettings ends determine if a life was well spent or valuable.
Re: belief needed to change someone's situation... ever met an _actual_ lottery winner? In my own experience and years of observation, luck plays a huge part in changing anyone's situation. (Not to say ambition doesn't matter in some respects or that it doesn't help you stay sane until you get lucky [or die]).

**Money != effort** As an unbounded philosophy of money - that's dangerous, imho. The person digging for a new road with a machine isn't putting out as much _effort_ as the dozen men doing it by hand on the other side of the world. The citizens of a collapsing economy aren't generally putting out less effort... global economies can collapse because of politics. Wealth vanishes. Now, maybe if you're using this a measuring stick for people born into the same economies, at the same point in time, and with similar opportunities presented to them...
If you start to equate effort and ability to create value to monetary wealth, how can you respect those without assets? Will there be a temptation there for you to attribute the lack of wealth to some lack of ambition, ingenuity, or ability to be creative? How could that go wrong?
Since I know you're a fan of Bitcoin: if someone put $100 in Bitcoin and held on to it until they died in a hundred years. Would they have created more value in the world than someone who worked at a nursing home for minimum wage for the same length of time?
Replying to @satsearcher (0x6348dbea8987c27f8462755e493f64d99c28dd05)
Well yes, con artists exist, and the amount of fraudulent/rent-seeking income as a percentage of total income in the economy is probably higher than anyone would like to admit. But money is still neutral proof that you add value. At it's core it's an expression of effort, of owing someone something. Even the money a scammer earns is proof that people believe(d) the scammer would add value to their lives.

I'm not sure I agree, many of the highest earners are great people. By and large wealthy people are smart, helpful to others, and improve society. I like @sivers perspective on this: "Money is neutral proof you’re adding value to people’s lives."
If we ever meet face-to-face I'll tell you a bunch of true stories that involve people making tons of money and adding _zero_ value to anyone's life.

"Everyone has weird mental associations with money. They think the only way to make money is to take it away from others. ....It may sound cool to say money doesn’t matter — to say “don’t worry about it!” — but it leads to a really hard life. The happiest musicians [and people] are the ones who develop their value, and confidently charge a high price." - @sivers https://sivers.org/mn1
Too many people in the world work under miserable conditions. They don't have the realistic ability to charge a higher price for their labor, they don't have the time to cultivate globally-marketable skills... they don't even have access to a global market or working capital if they did.
Snippets like this overlook a huge swath of humanity.
If you can say anything like this - if you can *imagine* anything like this --- you've probably already won the geopolitical lottery at birth. Pay it forward. 🙏
