I feel that outside of the tech circle, people generally don't understand that a social media service is free only because the user is the product. By monetizing their habits, a business can then sell ads to pay for servers and staff.

Unless we all just agree to drop it like it's hot. #wishfulthinking
I'm okay with the name. It's unique.

I am of this opinion as well. Well over half of the people I've discussed the project with have disliked the name. In the end, there will be several frontends with different names and everyone can be happy.
What are we discussing here, the name of Peepeth?

Just bid on one. Auction ends Sunday.
Don't forget to reveal your bid after Sunday during the reveal period!

You’re way ahead of me. Literally just found the notification feature. #Discovery
I like to explore all the features of a webapp whenever I sign up, a job hazard I guess.

The search feature seems to have been disabled. Username searching def used to work. Guess we know what @bevan is up to today?
Is there a Peepeth feature roadmap that we can view?

"Create account" is the one you want.
Thanks, I just did that and viola it appears. That button definitely needs a little UX upgrade :)
Replying to @CallMeGwei (0x285bc660aa42b8effc6c60357cd4d8ca072be625)
It's worded a little weird. You need to "add account" from within MetaMask. The added accounts are the children.
I’ve been trying to look for that but I don’t see “add account”. There is “create account” and “import account”.
How do you login to a child wallet on Metamask using Brave browser? My Peepeth account is linked to a child wallet — when I login to Metamask on Brave, it only shows the first wallet. Typing this on Cipher now -.-

I clicked on the #Telegram one and got a list page showing multiple peeps. Do you mean something else?
It doesn't seem to work in the search tool, for now.

I need an ens for social
Have you bid on any yet?

The hashtags highlight but not the tickers. I imagine the tickers will in time. As for work, no idea!
Might be a future feature. As it is now, hashtag searching doesn't work.

How do you get funds sent to account 2 without linking it to your identity?
Well technically anybody can just check the tx hash and see the source. A little sleuthing and one can see where the funds from the social account arrived from. Separating the accounts just makes it a little less visible.

Did you hear the one about how Russia disrupted their own banking services to censor a service which already censors content? #Telegram #Censorship #Gubment
Are you sure hashtags and ticker symbols work in Peepeth?

Too stalkerish to link to etherscan, or too stalkerish to peep a #suggestion directly @bevan? I think Bevan is OK with it. He sort of puts himself out there and a pretty cool dude.
Woops! Reread my post and it did sound a bit ambiguous. What i meant was hyperlinking our ETH address to etherscan might seem a little invasive for some peeps.

is anyone else having issues with the new peeps page? User pages and the friends page load fine, but the new peeps page isn't loading any peeps (getting a 500 error in chrome console on the request to peepeth.com/get_peeps?you=0xec3281124d4c2fca8a88e3076c1e7749cfecb7f2&page=1)
I think I might have broken it. :( Right after I sent GAS to update my profile settings, Peepeth started acting up.

As much as I don't want to promote Enso-ing people just for having nice looking faces, I'll make an exception today! Keep making the world a better place with that honest smile, Sid!
He's doing good work for Toshi, so that's a well deserved Enso :)
Replying to @ayunknown (0x207a9f001cdde2a1717fae152a0a1288059a126a)
At the moment I think it wouldn't because most people here know anyway about etherscan etc. but if the community eventually grows bigger it could for some people seem stalkerish yes haha
It's a good idea to always use one eth or btc address solely for social. I treat my main account like my primary email address -- I don't hand it out unnecessarily. Everything else gets my secondary email address.
Replying to @balibebas (0x1f1c2bcae0505db4fb9c51305af8baa976c26af4)
Hope people don’t forget one of their ETH addresses is for social now and don’t move all their ERC20 tokens to the same addresses. That’s just begging to get hacked.
That's why I love Metamask. One private seed gives 10 wallet addresses -- use one for social and keep it funded with coffee money!

Can someone scrape peepeth to see who the richest peeple are?
There was a disclaimer before signing up that users should use a ETH account solely for Peepeth if they're concerned about exposing their wealth :)
Replying to @ayunknown (0x207a9f001cdde2a1717fae152a0a1288059a126a)
Well your ETH address is written on your profile and then all you have to do is past it into etherscan.io xD
I actually wanted to suggest to @bevan that the ETH address hyperlink out to etherscan.io directly, but figured it might be a little too stalkerish. What do you think?

Haha, chill out. It's only 1 cent for a batch. It'll be a long time before you even hit $1.

Is this space only meant for the tech geeks/nerds? All I've been seeing are peeps about deep technical stuffs. Let's come back down to earth please
I think we're at 800+ users at the moment, with most of us coming over from Product Hunt, Hackernews, or r/ethereum. It probably explains the tech-centric posts. In other news, A Perfect Circle's new album will be out this Friday!
People are losing their minds because twitter is down. But it's all good for me on this side of the fence. dApp ftw!
I just discovered that following a user on Peepeth counts as 1 unsaved action. I think I like it -- prevents people from follow/unfollow habits.
Replying to @Bryce (0xf54ea10ed1aa644a9ef2ce870e6122c35d19f4da)
My one issue with it is that you get the unintended opposite effect. People don't want to use it then regret it, so people hold on and forget to use enso at all.
Maybe it could be increased to something less minimalistic -- say 10 Ensos a day? I'm also curious as to when it gets reset. GMT/UTC?
Replying to @flygoing (0xec3281124d4c2fca8a88e3076c1e7749cfecb7f2)
Enso is the peepeth of liking someone's post. It's the circle between repeep and tip, and you can only give 1 every 24h
Enso is a minimalist zen concept and signifies enlightenment. Limiting it to 1 Enso per day is a good way for a user to reward another user's post if it made their day! Unlike other social media where people give out likes all the time needlessly.

Not to mention, that you eventually get tipped here $5, which will give you in fact 7,500 peeps for free. Thanks @bevan!
I think it's always great to reward content creators when they create useful and meaningful discussions. Similar to Brave/BAT and Steemit/Steem.
Replying to @veox (0xf75b78571f6563e8acf1899f682fb10a9248cce8)
That usually takes a while to confirm, but shorter than the time it takes me to make 15 actions. I'm using it on desktop, though (Firefox + MetaMask), so bumping the gas price is simple if a batch takes too long.
I don't really see a benefit to saving a batch to the blockchain quickly, so I just choose the cheapest option.
How much are you paying for a batch? My latest batch costs USD$0.05. Not that I'm complaining (it's cheap!), but I want to see if it's consistent with everyone else.

When I started, signing wasn’t working on mobile dApp browsers, so I was paying per peep.
Just checked 10 minutes ago and Cipher allows signing in. What about Toshi?
I just realised that batching 15 peeps cost me $0.01. This means $5 gives a user 500 batches worth of peeps. That's 7,500 peeps. I've been on twitter since '08 and I only have 2,400 tweets. Looks like $5 will go a long way!
Replying to @abcoathup (0x13ebd3443fa5575f0eb173e323d8419f7452cfb1)
Pete is joining Toshi. Cipher was given a grant to go open source so don’t know how that all plays out. Toshi should eventually have everything that Cipher has with Trust pushing forward too. (Don’t forget Status)
That gives me more incentive to try out Toshi as well. We live in good times for social dApps. Who knows, we might be able to use the our same identity on Peepeth for any future social dApp?
Replying to @abcoathup (0x13ebd3443fa5575f0eb173e323d8419f7452cfb1)
I have #Toshi (messaging) #Cipher (landscape) and #Trust (finds any tokens and transaction notifications). Your seed phrase is your username, password, identity all in one. Triple check multiple sources before entering into an app. Use a hardware wallet for lrg funds/tokens.
Thanks for the tip Andrew!
Replying to @christianengel (0x230c20b0756388dd2b3d61b787c5713c1b18656a)
Trust is great. I'm using it for testing my stuff on the testnet. Too bad toshi doesn't have the option.
I'm wondering whether Toshi will eventually replace Cipher, since both developers are now merging features into Toshi.
Coinbase is on a roll. They acquired Cipher a few days back, and today announced that earn.com will be joining them. Good times indeed for the blockchain!

I user Cipher, but make your own opinion by testing them. Be careful though!
I already have Cipher so I'll be testing Peepeth out on it. Will definitely keep a lookout for bugs.

That's the general consensus I'm getting from Reddit too :)
What do you guys use to browse Peepeth on iOS? Cipher?

I'm tempted to verify my Twitter identity too. Just wondering whether I should. On Mastodon, we used to avoid giving extra publicity to Twitter since the community believes in decentralization.
