Instead of feeling disappointed by the people in your life, recognize that you are the best friend you’ll ever have. Be your own compass. Trust yourself radically. It won’t make you selfish, it will make you stop using other people as instruments for your own satisfaction

There is movement towards tokenization in the more traditional stock market. Institutional adoption of these system could lead to much more widespread adoption of cryptocurrency as well. But yes, right now it is no where near mainstream.

Yes, tokenized securities will be monumental, even if people don't quite get how it works behind the scenes. Being able to buy $0.10 of the S&P or Hang Seng is going to make investing radically more accessible

3.)Instead of really mass adopting it as a form of currency in retail and online. It’s more of a novelty and like a stock market and collectors item. Be nice to see when BTC actually becomes everyday money and a way of life and not just a get rich scheme.

We are still the lunatic fringe. I don’t know if it will ever be “mainstream” even when there’s mass adoption. Might just be under the hood, so to speak, which is fine with me. Brave’s ad rewards and Facebook/Kik/Telegram launching coins are interesting developments to watch

Why does peepeth keep suggesting inactive people to follow? Why should I follow someone who hasn‘t posted for 6 months? This is just bad.

It draws attention to how many inactive users there are, which is fair given where we are in the hype cycle. It might make it more attractive to prospective users though if there were a cutoff after someone had been inactive for so long

There are so many problems to address and opportunities to explore that it’s easy to fall victim to decision paralysis. Props for taking the leap of faith and actually buidling something

It’s such a wide open space, which leaves a lot of room for entrepreneurs to participate who would otherwise be crowded out by monopolies or overwhelming competition for venture capital, but that also means less demand, especially at the trough of the hype cycle

A degree or network doesn't need to be there, you just need to be likeable and committed to serving others needs. Eventually your experience becomes your degree and your network naturally grows.

I’m tempted to say there’s more specialization (to cross threads from Cent), but I don’t know if that’s true: I see more explicit generalist positions in programming/development than ever. Engineering management has specialized more though, which has changed how I see my skills

I believe so! Fortunately, this isn’t my first rodeo, so I stay pretty motivated. It is interesting how much faster tech appears to be accelerating from the perspective of job-seekers though. There’s more competition, but also way more automation now, and more to learn everyday

I have tried a GoFundMe, but I guess I need friends and connections to share it and some super sob story. A simple honest this is what is going on, this is what I need, this is what I tried, this is what I’m doing approach apparently didn’t work.

Sadly, there's still a lot of self-promotion involved. In my experience, this is one of the biggest blind spots people have to their privilege: a network of people and the confidence to rely on them. How you're raised to feel about yourself matters more than money in my opinion

Most of my experience has been working for agencies, which can be very possessive about what work you're "allowed" to put in your portfolio and will try to intimidate you with NDAs. Also, I have a good number of code samples, but they usually aren't "product-oriented" enough

Maybe you could start a GoFundMe? There are some blockchain alternatives but they’re young and don’t have much of a user base. It’s on my agenda, but it feels so much better to keep writing cover letters than an appeal for money so I keep putting it off

I’ve been applying for consistent work for over a year. I’ve worked as a software developer for the better part of a decade, and for some impressive brands. I have a lot of useful skills, but I don’t have a degree or a network, so getting a job still isn’t as easy as people think

I have a hard time trusting anyone too. Developing trust when you’ve been hurt all your life is hard work. It’s a cost a lot of people don’t have. I have a few friends, but it’s taken a lot of effort to build what trust is there, and when push comes to shove I feel I’m on my own

My family refused to help me with even basic medical and dental needs as a child despite having plenty of money. Now, as an adult, I have repeated bone infections, vision problems, hearing loss, and horrible tinnitus from decades of inadequate care that I now have to pay to fix

I respect your openness. I can’t say what I’ve been going through is quite on the same level as what you’re suffering right now, but I think I can relate. I haven’t spoken to anyone in my family in over 2 years after finally walking away from a lifetime of abuse and neglect

I'm basically just seconding Vitalik's idea here: https://vitalik.ca/jekyll/general/2017/03/11/a_note_on_charity.html. As he points out, we'd need "sticker-issuing organizations", so Peepeth couldn't do it alone but it could shape the technical framework for those organization

In the meantime, I think Peepeth's doing a lot of good by issuing badges and it sounds like @bevan has a great plan to balance attracting diverse users with incentivizing donations. I'm just very excited for the future and tend to have the mindset of "if eventually, why not now"?

There's global-local spectrum of class issues and an ongoing problem at those respective levels of wealthy countries/representatives deciding what's best for poor countries/communities. I'd like to see badges for building wells in Africa, volunteering at soup kitchens, etc.

That's almost 2 weeks of income for many of the people these nets are trying to help. If we're going to build a platform that empowers people across the globe instead of perpetuating cycles of dependence then we need a reputation economy that doesn't reinforce existing inequities

Could use personal domains, or other verified accounts like Manna UBI for people who can’t afford personal domains. Could nix identification altogether and focus on filtering tools for users to weed out spam

I think so too, eventually. Unfortunately a lot of people outside the space still have a pretty low opinion of crypto and seeing a focus on those topics reinforces existing beliefs about it only being a niche for nerds, which in turn hampers broader adoption. It’s a vicious cycle
