Just watched this on Netflix last night about the fishing industry. It's an interesting watch. http://wbsm.com/new-netflix-series-highlights-new-bedford-codfather-scandal/
Looks interesting, thanks! How much did they go into the regulations meant to protect local fishermen, and why they backfired / were co-opted by the CodFather / simply didn't work?

no PhD, not a vegan. but overfishing is a problem recognizable across most spectrums, right? however, i apologize for coming off like i was attacking the entire concept and subsequent verbiage. i'll go back and re-read the article to gain a better understanding of their example.
No problem, just assuming peepeth is still basically twitter haha. How I read it is they're approaching all of those problems head-on. Not going to be perfect yet, but it seems like a positive step in the right direction for sustainability, fair trade, knowing the food source etc

I am not keen on the use of vegan in entovegan as it goes against what I see are the principals of veganism. (Thinking about silk worms and lobsters) I can see that eating bugs could be the future for meat eaters. I don’t plan on participating.
Most vegans aren't, because they don't think "vegan" through thoroughly. Np if they disagree tho, it's a word in the general domain that describes the diet.
Plants are just as alive as insects, and possibly more "aware", considering their responses to music and vocal tonality.

This is an interesting application of blockchain, but as the article points out, the system isn't really "trustless" as it relies on human non-intervention to preserve the results. As long as there are incentives to skew the data, there will be an actor looking to take advantage.
True, and that's one of the things that they're looking at improving, and I'm sure many others will also. It's likely already a better system though than most if not all governmental/org certifications. It's pretty easy to game "Fair Trade" or "Wild Caught" or "USDA Organic".

the article is trying to bring awareness to where our food comes from, but no matter what we use to track it, blockchain or other, fishing for "person-sized" ahi is not sustainable. at all. it's a poor example of what blockchain can do and has done so far for food/ag/F2T.
Is that your opinion because you're a vegan / environmentalist, or do you have a PhD in Sustainability of the South Pacific Ahi Tuna studies? Just want to gauge where this is going.

it's great to be able to source our food to the best of our abilities, esp via blockchain, but "agriculture" and "F2T" are not the right categories to place this example in. they apply more to things that are grown, not caught. can blockchain play a role in conservation as well?
Based on the linked article, that’s precisely what they’re attempting to find out. I would certainly put farms and fisheries in the same category though, it’s “food production” to table...
Think of all the superfluous regulatory paper-pushing processes that won't be needed when anyone can track their food from #FarmToTable. The opportunities in developing nations are massive.

And now for something completely different! As you travel around the world to all these crypto events, remember that there's more to experience than JUST the crypto. Explore the new foods! The cultures! Read: https://medium.com/@albertorengifo/why-ill-eat-anything-552d9591ddcb
The scorpions on Khao San Road are pretty hardcore, granted, but they're fried to a crisp and overly chewy (albeit photo-ready)!
Smaller alacranes from Mexico though, soaked in tequila and drizzled with chocolate...now that's a culinary delight! 😋

That's pretty amazing. I'm all for alternative food sources, but I have to admit that insects still creep me out.
Just think of them as land lobsters! They're pancrustacea cousins.
100 years ago lobster was the food of prisoners/the poor, but today insects are only regarded that way by westerners who don't know yet how good they are. Healthy too! When prepared right they're not gross :)

But a growing demand for alternative protein as Food & Feed make any bagholding extremely unlikely. Most edible insect producers are under heavy pressure to meet strong demand, and some #insectprotein companies are backordered as much as a year right now.
Any investors interested in the #edibleinsects space, feel free to slide into my dm's. We've been developing a solid foundation in the industry now for a couple years and have several projects live and ready to scale quickly.

Granted, a potential 40%+ CAGR isn't as exciting as a potential 40x in cryptoland, but the #entomophagy space has one definite upside - if you get stuck as a bagholder, unlike a shitcoin you literally CAN eat bugs! :-p

In the year since these 8 Reasons why eating insects is the future of food were published, there's already been consolidation (Aspire bought EXO), and probably 100 new "brands" have entered the space. https://venturopoly.com/content/8-reasons-eating-insects-future-food/ #eatbugs

Interesting! "The Mahuna Indians of California steeped dried poison oak roots in water and drank the resulting decoction as a preventive against future allergic reaction to the plant." https://yankeebarbareno.com/2011/03/03/eating-poison-oak/
Same thing can work with eating the stems of young tall grasses in early spring too - we never had hay fever allergies either. Probably considered quackery by most, but it was effective.

Cool idea! Maybe that would be a nice feature for profiles. Awesome that you're in PP. Have you been to Nerd Night yet?
I haven't yet, just been to the various sports groups mostly. But I need to, there's several things it'd be fun to present - and the fact that I bike everywhere is actually a direct result of a nerd night presentation that a friend went to before I even got here!

Good call. Will be fixing this soon, and unchecking "Tweet" for replies. In the meantime, you can manually uncheck the "Tweet" checkbox for replies (in the peep form). Also in the settings, there's a "Tweet by default" checkbox.
Ah, got it. Thanks!
Anyone have a favorite agriculture + blockchain entity?
I really like the idea of Demeter ( https://demeter.life/ ), was disappointed when their ICO didn't raise enough, but it looks like they're gearing up for another go at it. (I'm not affiliated, just like the idea).
@bitcoin I hope you're a BTC maximalist so we don't have to deal with another Roger Ver / Bitcoin.com situation when Peepeth takes off... ;)
Inspired by Derek Sivers' /now page idea, here's a snapshot of what I'm working on: http://joshgalt.com/now

Welcome, Josh! Thanks for verifying your Twitter account. All suggestions appreciated :)
One thing I would suggest is only have peeps go to twitter, not replies - right now peeps AND replies are going to my twitter. I don't mind if my peeps go there (that's why I set it up to do so), but replies on peepeth shouldn't, since they end up on twitter with no context.

Soon learned why... The trail was lined with what appeared to be poison oak. Will return another day with long pants.
Yeah, probably a good idea! :) Although when I was a kid my dad told me to chew on the leafless branches in the winter, supposedly to build up a tolerance. He and I never got poison oak in the summer, while the rest of our family (who didn't chew it) was extremely allergic. DYOR

Yes, where to send them! :-p I'm still playing with it, love the idea of a censorship resistant platform for permanent peeps though. I'm hoping this will take off, shadowbans on Tw and Fb have made them undesirable to even use, and this should inspire more valuable content too!
Stoked to support the @PeepethApp project! Decentralization is the future, hopefully of everything. #SovereignIndividual
