Day 35. The implications of how far "Civilization" and "Development" have brought us away from nature and the true ethics of conservation. I believe we could have co-existed instead of forced one existence over the other. Stock: https://www.pexels.com/@josh-hild-1270765

I love this picture. I took it on a morning walk, and the light and contrast were perfect, even for a phone pic.
Natural grayscale! Thanks for peeping

I am so moved to look on the postings made when we were just starting out here on Peepeth in 2017-2018. It was a time of massive life transition for me and I am grateful to have this record and all the positive commentary from the community. Good to be back!

Hi y’all, I’m new to this
Welcome Rob! First Cumer I've ever met.

What's up Peepeth people? Hit me with one word to describe your life this week. Mine is 'agitated.' Not the most positive thing but just being honest. Looking forward to the weekend!
Wishing the best to Hong Kong citizens. I've visited HK many times and always appreciated the complexity of this dynamic and sophisticated city. Stay safe and stay strong in the face of adversity. 香港加油!

Alright peepl, what is the best place you've ever vacationed? (Besides @ #buidl_bali) :) Scheming for my next winter trip...
I've been to the Philippines several times (when I lived in China), but the best time was when I went alone, and in a January. Beaches were much more sparse and there was a level of camaraderie among the people there.

Cool, congrats man
"A philosopher said, life is a choice between boredom and suffering." / "Go to your room." --> Never laughed so hard while watching a TV show by myself. :)

Today life feels like a search for order in chaos. And that's OK.
This Leica commercial is so outstanding that it's impossible not to get chills.

Could this be because the Chinese have witnessed and heard stories of life improving much more rapidly in recent history and they mentally carry that trend forward? 🤔
@CallMeGwei yes. However this is starting to downtrend in top-tier cities and among Chinese youth with college education; they are under pressure to pay higher rents in cities like Beijing and Shanghai and are less optimistic than their parents.

Very interested in the concept of UBI lately. Been doing my own research but interested to hear others' thoughts. Could we respect people who live off a universal basic income? What could it change about society? (This should go without saying but, please keep convo civil!) >_>

What's something interesting you've learned lately? ✍ I'll go first, with a few things: 1) How to send a transaction from command line with geth. 2) The word 'bagal' in Tagalog means 'slow' in English. 3) Doorknob design where a bar goes through the whole thing > alternatives.
I recently learned how to put in a code such that when someone clicks on a link on my website, their referral address does not show up on the other website's stats. i.e. the other website can't see where they came from. Maybe I learned something more interesting lately...
For everyone who has moved before: What was the most important thing you did to help yourself integrate into the new place? (make friends / become part of the community / feel 'at home')

Interesting - would you recommend it? I love books about this kind of thing
Yeah I got it on audiobook because its the kind of book you can listen to in pieces under no time constraint. Moments of it are hokey/spiritual/easily-debunked, but there are plenty of truth-nuggets to make it worthwhile. Mostly I like having this new framework to see the world.

After seeing this thread I checked out leading up the chain and found a solid article, great stuff. Anyone interested in culture, leadership and organizations, check it out https://real-leaders.com/the-leadership-chain/
"the quality of the culture is a reflection of the consciousness of the leader. It is the leader’s shadow reflecting back the best and worst of whom he or she is as a leader."

There's a reinforcing feedback loop too - alcohol is a depressant and makes you more susceptible to other depressing stuff like smoking, staying in bed all day using Facebook/Instagram, injuries, not taking care of yourself
So Fred Dodson wrote about this in his book "Levels of Energy" -- basically supporting what you say about lower levels of energy equating to depressing behavior. (His definition of energy being more like "spiritual energy" / capacity to do good things with your life.)

We discussed "leading up the chain" at #buidl_bali I will admit, the concept was foreign to me. I'm not one to generally work **for** a **boss** per se, but working ***with*** others is a whole other thing. It can be exceedingly rewarding. Ramble aside: excellent advice!
"Leading up the chain"/working for yourself even under another person's leadership --> absolutely. I've noticed that most leaders also agree, but have trouble implementing this. Under pressure, most will still go with "my way or the highway." A truly good leader is rare.

I recently took up art (well, slapping paint about some small canvases) as a form of therapy. All abstract, as I can't do likenesses of anything..... I've even managed to sell one on Etsy, which was badass!
Already sold one on Etsy? Nice!

I read the manifesto this morning into the afternoon. It's a delusion of grandeur of how to combat lower birthrates with actual genocide. The guy was methodical in his approach. Crazy as hell. He wanted a world wide reaction in deadly action. The guy is certainly chaotic evil.
We can and must try to prevent these things from happening. To stand idly by as hate foments is less and less understandable in today's world. I will try to do my part in spreading positive energy and taking action.
Not endorsing any political candidates but I want to share this man's speech, which I found very inspiring!

Everyday I go for a long walk after work as a form of digital detox. No headphones. No smartphone. It's a very refreshing exercise.
I'd offer enso if I hadn't already. Everyone should do this. I feel like my mind is on "digital mode" most of the day, until suddenly it's not.

Was reminded at the Museum of London just how much of human history is sheer suffering. Pretty much the whole exhibit was "how kings kept their heads and peasants managed suffering" up until the industrial revolution. To say I'm grateful for modern life is an understatement.

I just realized that I have more @peepethApp followers than I do @twitter followers. This is amazing, because people on Peepeth actually "hear" each other. If you're into crypto and you're tired of not being heard on "crypto twitter": https://peepeth.com/?PeepethLoves=callmegwei
I do too, though I didn't realize till you just said it. Woohoo!!
Saw this at the British Museum -- some European merchants in China in the early 1700s had Chinese porcelain-makers make these figurines based on the prints. #london #history #sculpture #art

Cool. Is afternoon tea the same as high tea?
I think so. That would be a question for our commonwealth friends. @abcoathup

Hanging out with all the beautiful people (who I did not exactly capture on camera) in hipster Shoreditch. Didn't stay late (wasn't our scene) but did find a nice quieter pub in the neighborhood north-adjacent to Shoreditch. #london #shoreditch https://youtu.be/x425TKbgoi8

#buidl_bali Day 9 vlog https://youtu.be/juKRlZR91sY
Thanks for the high-quality vids! Love the shot of the pool with rain at the end. When I was in Cambodia in 2012 I went for a swim in a river during a downpour and it was pretty cool until I came out and realized I had a fever...which kicked off a week of dengue fever.
