Depends wildly on how popular the files are.

Can you give some more rough estimations for some average popular content?

IPFS is working on Filecoin, which incentivizes storing data for the network.

Sounds good!

But measured still: ~100 KiB/s constant load on internet connection, 600 MiB in RAM, <1 GiB used on hard drive. That's quite something on mobile, but manageable on modern laptops with a power plug, and mostly unnoticeable on even dated desktops.

Looks good, I will surely contribute to IPFS network. What are current network capabilties to retrieve files ranging from 1mb to 1gb?

Hmm, indeed. Why give back to others what you yourself have asked for?.. I remember the feeling of indignity after hearing this from a friend, when I asked them "Why don't you leave the torrent to seed for a while?" (Haven't talked to them in years.)

Well, such system needs good incentive. Crypto works because of good incentives in place. Most people are usually moral garbage.

Moderation will always be a necessity here (and everywhere else). If you mean the politics feature, that (like all others) is an experiment that will probably change. Peepeth's focus is particular and demands trying different things. This client probably won't be o-s.

Thanks for reply! Good luck with further development :) Cheers

Yep! Something like that is in the works, thanks for asking.

That sounds good! 👌🏻 Do you plan to abandon current techniques to hide posts on your centralised client? By the way, any chance that client will be open-source at some point in future?

Peepeth is about promoting mindful, non-toxic discourse online. The decentralized datastore provides transparency, data portability, and more. There are purpose-built "anything-goes" sites like Gab and Minds, but that's not Peepeth's focus. Making this more clear :)

I have seen Peepeth advertised as unstoppable microblogging. Im not in favour of fully unmoderated discussion space. Did you considered implementing reputation & moderation system in decentralized way?

@kr3 It seems that decentralisation does not live up to it's original intent. Especially when the front end is manipulated to serve a hidden agenda. It is only as good as it's weakest link.

Perhaps its just matter of time ;)

Think minising peeps by default about politics that anyone can easily view/maximise. I try to read a good portion of peeps, including tagged as nsfw and politics. I don’t think it is politically correct it’s about being positive and considerate. Peepeth is a nice space

Agreed, good to have positive space. However if We forgot that cryptocurrencies as a whole are fight with governments imposing more and more restrictions and regulations. Immutable ledgers are good "space" to actually change something/educate, while no one can alter that easily.

The creator and developer of Peepeth is @bevan. Hackathons have resulted in an unofficial iOS client and an unofficial Android client. There is also another unofficial iOS client. Blockchain and IPFS provide an open dataset for others to use.

Yeah, so perhaps these clients won't impose censorship. Are these open source ? I couldn't find iOS client on the Apple App Store.

It's a cool technology indeed. It will eventually be incentivized with a token though (Filecoin).

So for now this is rather voluntary work to mange IPFS node?

If political correctness is cancer of the modern age, I'd say we're doing pretty good :) I agree with the sentiment though. That feature doesn't have to do with political correctness or political views, but is rather an acknowledgement that many people don't like politics.

Part2: People need to realise that they don't need politics, politicians and overgrown governments, like they don't need central banks to rip them off now. Every post about politics is good occasion to remind of that.

Part1: Well, I get your point that many people don't like politics, but it's like closing eyes and doing nothing when someone is killing innocent people. It's very similar with crypto.

Still something to improve then!

It also means that every other reply after the tag is imposed is hidden, even if the topic steers away from politics and even if you didn't tag it yourself. Not cool and not what most people want.

Yet, lots to improve in cryptocurrency space. I hope that fully decentralised and open source platforms will emerge. Huge disadvantages of ETH smart contracts are centralised interfaces, allowing owners to manipulate.

Perhaps lets talk to founder of Peepeth, do you know the username We can peep to ? There always can be alternative client. Thats why I’m looking very much forward to the Lisk platform which can offer and host dapps in the way that, both server and client is decentralized.

Peeps are in IPFS with the hash (or hash of a batch) as a transaction input in Ethereum. Moderation is mostly client side.

I haven’t deeply looked at IPFS, it seems great, but it is not based on any token, therefore what is the incentive to participate in the network and share your server in ipfs network?

Politics can be very polarising. Self tagging means peepsters can choose if they want to view or not. Hiding by default means it is easy to skim past.

It can be, but poltical correctness is cancer of modern age. Controling emotions is very important for self improvement, perhaps good exercise for some people. Hiding posts by default is not solution whatsoever.

Well the problem is that crypto is used for illegal activities whereas fiat logistically can not and has not ever been used for illicit dealings.

Yeah, right ;)

That is why it is so important to push against it. If Twitter goes then other more restrictive platforms will take it's place. Not sticking up for Twitter.

Weird that Peepeth is hiding “political” posts be default. Whats the point?

They are worried about others seeing what you think, not about them or others being upset. It goes against their agenda. They can then push their narrative without being challenged.

Indeed. Shame that this behaviour is spreading quite fast. Especially in english speaking countries.

Sep 18, 2018 12:33

Exactly... These days many people waste lots of time making disclaimers to literally every word they say.

Sep 18, 2018 11:45

What a surprise, funny though how they reject to work with companies related to cryptocurrencies, especially NL subsidiary.

Sep 18, 2018 11:42

These recents selloffs at crypto are crazy. Looking at SPX burst at similar time, they recovered much faster, even their bubble didnt ever bursted seriously. Crypto is looking better than ever.

Sep 17, 2018 21:04

I was wondering, if peeps are stored in ethereum blockchain and at the same time are moderated by content - how exactly moderating process looks like?
