Bless you for being that teacher that uses open and free textbooks, even if you did just find it lol

The one I'm currently using in that class is also free but it's getting a little long in the tooth. πŸ˜” I've been pushing for our entire department to have zero textbook costs for years ✊

Updating classes that begin in three weeks and what do I find like... three days ago? An OER (read: open, free) textbook just released that would've been perfect. https://media.giphy.com/media/BY8ORoRpnJDXeBNwxg/giphy.gif

What podcasts are you listening to? I recently discovered the Huberman Lab podcast, which is a great scientific podcast about personal development.

My go-to is No Such Thing As A Fish, hosted by four of the writers and researchers on the British panel show QI (Quite Interesting). Hilarious and fascinating.

Which book is this? I've not engaged with a lot of CRT in recent years because of the grifting that's been going on by DiAngelo et al. Really interested in more of this discussion based on what's being said in these pages though!

https://www.britannica.com/topic/critical-race-theory "CRT hold that the law ... in the US are inherently racist insofar as they function to create and maintain ... inqualities between whites and non-whites..." Title IX ended this. New discrimination violates IX. Lets heal now.

I echo your belief of good faith, and appreciate our respectful discourse. To me CRT and affirmative action are two wrongs trying to make a right. That does not heal, it seeks vengeance. MLK didn't seek reparations, he sought forgiveness and brotherhood.

I'm curious as to how CRT is defined here. I go with Delgado's and Stefancic's 2001 definition from "CRT: An Introduction: "The [CRT] movement is a collection of activists and scholars interested in studying and transforming the relationship among race, racism, and power" (p. 2).

I agree the social construct exists... but I don't think that matters to my point. Giving the diseased social construct attention and even legal weight does nothing to mitigate it. It makes the whole thing more damaging.

I think that position is definitely in good faith. I'd argue, rather, that ignoring, shunning it actually exacerbates the problem. It needs to be acknowledged, reckoned with, and appreciated for its full weight. Part of what CRT is for, really! My $0.02, anyway. :)

Small correction that I think is important: biological race doesn't exist, but race as a social construct (and the societal, economic, and cultural impacts thereof) most certainly does.

The Mute feature is pretty great. Haven't really seen much of the conspiracy theory and anti-vax/sci/etc here, though (thankfully). The political hashtag having a spoiler mechanic is nice, too (presuming folks use it πŸ˜…).

Couldn't agree more! Relying on the newest peeps means we're getting a lot of first time peepers (which is always welcome), but they usually fade too quickly. Also maybe something between liking and an enso? For those funny posts that make you smile but aren't #deepthoughts?

Definitely. Enso is great but the lack of some sort of like-mechanic means the interaction is confined to replies and reposts, which seem even more "heavy" than the enso. Replies being similar to quote-tweets is also a bit much, visually on the timeline.
