Created a shell candle/chalice today made entirely from found objects. Wish the photo really did justice to it.

Thanks for the Ensō!

Cool! Is that a conch shell? #lkie

Thanks! Close. It's a Knobbed Whelk (Busycon carica). They are pretty common on the Cape Cod beaches. True conches are tropical.

Well I’ve been learning a lot on the many different people and entities getting behind it, and I don’t want to miss out! A big question is how does an average guy go from here to get further involved?

Step 1: Don't think of yourself as "an average guy".

What are your interests and passions? Which aspects of the ecosystem do you dream about? Figure out how to learn, participate, and contribute from there.

Interesting process challenge. It suggests having a way to automatically track the contributors to your dependencies and to track/enforce (and potentially reward) code review.

I think it's a community *composition* thing, rather than a size thing. For people here, crypto isn't just magic internet money - at the very least, they know enough about the tech to install MetaMask and sign some messages. They can see the writing on the wall. Price != Future

Per my other replies, I agree.

I’m personally interested far more in the long term potential than short term price movement. It is a major drag that crypto is in the gutter, but endless speculation seems kind of pointless sometimes.

Agreed. I just expected some acknowledgement of it and maybe a vote of confidence in the builders. I see some of those today so maybe I was just expecting a faster response. It's good to have a place that takes a bit more time to respond to things.

You're right, price isn't discussed much here. It could be because price discussion doesn't stand the test of time well :) It's probably also a function of the community size.

I agree that the short term ups and downs aren't very interesting in the long term (kind of by definition), but it feels like like it's beginning to turn into a longer term conversation. Personally I'm delighted to see the speculators go and for the builders to keep building.

Saw the news about the latest drop in most of the crypto-currencies. The article mentioned the discussions on Twitter, so I thought I'd check Peepeth first, but I found nothing. Is this intentional, am I just not finding it, or is it just a community size thing?

So, I've started CryptoZombies, it's good fun. I'm only in the first section, chapter 8: Arrays but I'm having fun and learning at the same time :D. Thanks to @mycoder for the introduction

Awesome! Great to know you're pursuing it! Elixir is next on my list.

I'm not a developer. I have a sorta shame about it & sometimes feel like devs are magicians, haha. The closest I come is creative coding in Processing. But, I wonder what's the best way to get started in dApp development? (pic related but shamelessly added to grab attn :P )

I'm a experienced developer and am wondering the same thing. I going to checkout CryptoZombies to see how far that takes me. In general Python is a great language to started with (https://docs.python.org/3/tutorial/). Would be great to learn together!

Welcome! I love this style of painting as well. Checkout https://isabellakirkland.squarespace.com/ for some amazing modern images in this style including one of extinct species, one of species that have been saved/refound, one of "ascendant" species etc.

@Mycoder, you might like these I found. Never seen them until they popped up in my backyard recently.

Nice! Those are Bird Nest Fungi in the Cyathus striatus group (https://mushroomobserver.org/name/show_name/2078). They like growing in rich soil especially fresh mulch.

Welcome Nathan! 🐧 Would love to see, if you have a picture to share with us! 😁

Sadly my best images are on my Nikon and it looks like I didn't get an SD reader for my new Linux laptop yet. However, I was able to cobble this together from the images on my iPhone.

Today was the first frost on Cape Cod.
The fall colors have been amazing.
The mushrooms have been plentiful.
Looking forward to seeing more fall changes.
