(on a side note, I don't hold it)
IMO, game changer in shifting from the old internet business model of funding through advertisement revenue to the new internet era of users "paying" for their privacy.

I prefer either the 1 year time frame view or the 15 minute view :D
Re-peeping!
"the safe harbor would necessarily apply to those tokens."
"[Ether] is a good example of this type of protocol token that has become so decentralized it should not be deemed a Security," the document asserts. Though many digital currencies run off code related to the Ethereum network that uses ether, the working group does not believe...

""Once the token achieves full functionality, offers and sales of tokens would generally not constitute investment contracts under Howey," the most prominent Supreme Court case for determining whether an asset legally qualifies as a security."
"To remedy the uncertainty and confusion in this space, we are proposing a non-exclusive safe harbor to help provide guidance to the industry on what constitutes an 'investment contract' and how the investment contract law and guidance should apply to utility tokens," the workin"
Source saying: "A group of venture capital firms with investments in digital currency-related companies has asked the SEC for a safe harbor from securities laws for certain projects."

Swear I want to go to law school to specialize in smart contracts and DAOs! I think the more interesting question is what happens when a decentralized application infringes on one...Who do you sue?!
Seems like you have your next post to write about!

I'm not sure I generally like the word "patent" alongside the word "blockchain," but I can see how this is good news if I wander outside of the utopia I have in my mind... Gonna be interesting to see what happens if a patent is infringed by a public chain - what's the recourse?

Triple entry accounting ftw! BAC - and other LFIs - have filed tons of blockchain patents. You can find them searching through the uspto patent database. Been wanting to do a deep dive on this for a while...
Even wilder is how do these blockchains change retail banking when risk is more apparent (i.e. credit scores like Bloom), tokenized identities remove burdens of identification documentation (i.e. Civic and Uport) and tokenized assets can be posted as collateral (Dai stablecoin)!

2/2 "..[it is about] precious asymmetry to create a world that better preserves the autonomy of the individual, and cryptoeconomics is to some extent an extension of that, except this time protecting the safety and liveness of complex systems of coordination and collaboration.."
1/2: "Cryptography is truly special in the 21st century because cryptography is one of the very few fields where adversarial conflict continues to heavily favor the defender."
