Sure. But you can always save a hash to prove they exist + store them in IPFS.

Not quite. The IPFS address of this peep gets saved to the Ethereum blockchain: https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmTTDsnwFzgnTS8bqGFTLgMBW1B9PpSTbPfeQycgxv8Ayk. The object in that address contains the IPFS address of the image: QmT8Mm9PPJ5cPeYXtb3D7QmNmhb9EY9zaCdDnPa72qdELo.
