2001: A Space Odyssey is my new favorite movie

In case anyone was wondering, my horrific mouth pain / canker sores or whatever got better after like 8 months

Hope you all had a nice November :)

I believe that I am being shadow banned. (Just like Twitter) I've also been stalked by certain Peepeth members that try to discredit my peeps which are mostly political. I've had nothing but silence since my recent posts. Obviously about things they don't want me to talk about.

Confirmed, I cannot see or reply to this peep

But diversity has also lead to a kinda coalescing of groups and more vitriol. Group think is scary rampant right now, to the point that violence has been used by the individuals and by actors(supposed) to prove their point. ... ugh this is getting to deep for a Fri afternoon ;)

Smaller echo chambers mean more overall diversity of thinking,

but also many more insular populations mislabelling/misunderstanding outgroups.

I'm optimistic about human nature in the long term, but you're right about intolerance at present.

Love everyone!

Michael, I am still trying to understand this graph, but I think I get what you are saying. Both sides now vote on their party line? We have <b>more</> partisanship, not less, since the dawn of the info age? Also more accountable to things said on the campaign trail?

I think ppl have always been this partisan and tribal, but legacy media pushed a more homogeneous narrative, hence Dems/Republicans being 2 flavors of the same corporatism. The internet allowed more diverse thinking to get a foothold in our cultural consciousness.

Renaissance men are far and few between in this specialized world. You only have so much time. Still you have to be proactive because while the specialists make educated guesses and make mistakes it's still progress rather than sitting in ignorance. Wisdom > intelligence.

I agree that research and learning are great!

I think you need to add the "but I'll find out." part to it. Knowledge is in the learning.

I don't know. Experts dedicated to single fields disagree with each other after decades of study. Certainty is ignorance.

"I don't know, X makes sense to me, we'll have to wait and see." I will accept as being pretty damn enlightened

Aug 24, 2018 16:05

The more you say "I don't know" the smarter you are

Do I simply get it now... So close to 40 and all of a sudden I understand? Was the Clinton and Bush eras of new just as bad, and I was just not aware? Is social networking and media making it worse or is more information better? Is the info accurate?

The internet knocked ppl off the rails provided by 20th century broadcast monopolies. In a good way.

Truth. Fair. Balanced. Fake. I consider whether or not news in general has reached a tipping point of being objective at all. Where is simple news w/o the twist? I know I have to read between the lines, but why so blatant now?

I dunno Status specifically, but I'd imagine there's a way to import your seed phrase

Typos are disarming.
Typos are a reminder of physical space.

Had a good weekend in the beautiful north Wisconsin woods. I'm lucky to have a super principled father with deep knowledge in many subjects, and a mother who is sweet and even more bashful than my girlfriend. A good weekend.

The older I get the more I treasure these times.

I think it's different when we're talking about de facto monopolies
