Peepeth from Fidelity Labs/MIT conference on "Layer 2" - scaling issues
Repost Pix from Peetepth at MIT talk with CryptoKitties CTO. (repost pix again)
repost with pix at MIT event. not sure why earlier post with pix didn't go through
Sending Peepeth post from a presentation by CTO of CryptoKitties at MIT
Thanks Bevan. So what happens if the user doesn't spend crypto to post her comments to the blockchain? Do her post remain in the Peepeth app but she just doesn't have the immutability feature via an additional post to the public blockchain? or is "unpaid" post removed?
After I post, my message is live (but not yet on the blockchain). Where is this messaged stored? in Peepeth database? Is it correct to think that Peepeth is using a traditional db for performance optimization followed as quickly as possible by blockchain post for immutability?
Why are these apps called "decentralized apps". Since the front ends are proprietary and centralized, would a more precise term be "apps using decentralized data store?"
I'm trying dapps on Blockstack for 1st time. Oh wait. need to xfer BTC to its wallet. 15-40 min wait. These setup/onramps need to be IMPROVED.
@cryptocurrency Good to cross paths on Peepeth with another Boston person. I'm fighting up learning curve for blockchain. Could I buy you a coffee to ask you some basic questions? my email is paul.baier@gmail.com.. Paul
Blockstack mentioned it is working on social media dapp. is this different than Peepeth?
Peepeth a pix from Pillar_VC Blockchain conference in Boston (~300 people)
If you didn't see it Kai Stinchcombe two articles are in same vein: https://medium.com/@kaistinchcombe/decentralized-and-trustless-crypto-paradise-is-actually-a-medieval-hellhole-c1ca122efdec
Clemens' post is very good and reflects conversations I've had with 4 experienced enterprise software architects whom I've worked. Something is amiss when architects are sold on the tool for a specific business problem
thanks Bob. Does mean that all users on Peepeth are authenticated somehow (e.g. verified with Twitter account)? Is it impossible for a person to set up anonymous Peepeth account post something illegal.
couldn't Peepeth engineers block a user from using the Peepeth proprietary front end if the user was, say posting something illegal (i.e. child prom or military confidential info)
Peep post from MIT Blockchain conference yesterday (during a break). #bostonblockchainweek #bizofblockchain

Isn't there unique value in each front end (UX, like features, user management, etc.)? Why would the market evolve to have multiple front ends for an application? Seems like markets typically sort to 2-3 winners, especially for UX intensive b2c apps.

Are my follows also in the public, immutable blockchain or just my post. If I had, say, 20K followers and Peepeth app blocked me. Are these followers recoverable? Does the Peepeth app do the followering linking??
Twitter "shadow ban" tactic here http://www.breitbart.com/tech/2018/01/11/twitter-censorship-what-is-shadow-banning/
Twitter Problem #3: Twitter "shadow banned" accounts. Couldn't Peepeth do this? Is this avoided if user only checks each post on BC? Could Peepeth "shadow ban" a user's followers? Correct?
Twitter Problem #2: Twitter can close my account. blocking access to all my followers. Couldn't Peepeth (with proprietary Peepeth front end) do this?
Twitter Problem #1: My Post can be removed. Solved because post written on public blockchain

Your peep/batch is stored in IPFS. The hash is stored as transaction input. Your peep: https://gateway.ipfs.io/ipfs/QmR8ZjTa3cHan7625mYVg5APHG3WoqWTkNyiuxDe2JRvqM Your batch tx: https://etherscan.io/tx/0xf5ea4437f03e613a2de0f999057de5ec261f3db31a4018d1a3c328556a1a86df
Thanks Andrew
Congrats Peepeth team! #peepeth
I'm another novice right with you. For consumer apps, all this new technology is incredibility raw and often confusing for non blockchain engineer types. Much work is needed before the mass market starts using b2c apps like this, CrytoKitties, games, purchases, etc. #earlydays

How cool would it be if we had a decentralized Medium on the Ethereum Blockchain? 🔥
Pedro, why? Is the benefit to have a blog site where the connect is immutable? or to have mechanism to pay/charge users for reading? thx
I'm trying to use Toshi mobile app to access Peepeth. ARGH!!! What am I doing wrong? sent ETH to Toshi app. Is there not a Peepeth password? This new technology is SO SO cumbersome for non-engineers. #frustratedearlyadopter
This is an important discussion
Triple support. "on-ramping" needs a lot of improvement
Nate, perhaps mistake on my end (maybe I had unposted change). Good to see no charge. One idea is to move it higher so more feedback is captured
I just sent a note to Feedback on the bottom of the page and was charged usage. One improvement suggestion is for Peepeth to at least pay for product Feedback post #peepeth #feedback
could this be correct? a bug? alert says 84min to update a post
Silly Rabbit. I just tried to explain Peepeth and Blockchain to my wife who doesn't work in software and isn't technical. Mistake. I'll keep my comments to blockchain early adopters #blockchain
Maybe an adoption angle for Peepeth is to got close with all the ICOs. I was very surprised by so many ICO using Telegram. Perhaps Peepeth could be a niche "crypto-enthusiast, 'in the club' 'cool kids only' " tool
is there an easy way for me 2c my blockchain post w/out using the Peepeth front end? I'm not technical. Is this doable or do I need to find an engineer? I'd like to verify that my Peep would remain on a public blockchain if Peepeth goes dark (if I understand correctly)
qiao. I agree with your views. I think the value prop is "in exchange for a service for which a post can never be changed, Peep is a new, very low-fee based service. Initially, a post takes 2-10 minutes to display but this decline over time. Posts can never be edited."
do others have predictions of when Peep posts will be instant? Is this 2 years out? 5 years? never? I understand short-term performance issues, but I am trying to understand when this service can take 20% of Twitter volume/users
Why does there revenue model affect which database they use? I believe that Peepeth currently controls the proprietary front of this app and its "platform" expect it uses an an immutable distributed database
If Peepeth was able to build this blockchain in, say 1 year, why couldn't Twitter add blockchain to its service in the next year?
I'm surprised there isn't thousands of Twitter users trying this new service. Do they know abt? Is avoiding Twitter censorship not a need? chicken/egg issue because network is so small?
But if the goal is to have, say, 20% of censor-concerned Twitter users move to Peepeth, it seems like the easiest way is to make the service very similar. Twitter is instant, batchless today. Batching feels like another "fee"
I'm still concerned that consumer adoption of Peepth will be materially impacted by users paying for every tx. Are there other Blockchain B2C apps to learn from? Would a pricing model, say, for $10/year, for unlimited use and cost (like AWS fees) by the vendor, work?
