Thanks! I ran into this researching Rene Descartes (“I think, therefore I am.”) Turns out one study argues his contact with an angel was actually Exploding Head Syndrome:p https://medium.com/bitgensteins-table/doubt-descartes-and-initial-coin-offerings-icos-4ac95801407e
Yeah! Decided not to include it since it was unconfirmed but you could argue that this might be the earliest written record of the phenomenon. The fact that he notes it happened many times makes me suspect it might be...
