...I've concluded that genius is as common as dirt. We suppress our genius only because we haven't yet figured out how to manage a population of educated men and women. The solution, I think, is simple and glorious. Let them manage themselves.

Back to peepeth after great #web3summit in Berlin. What's up?
How was it?
Yesterday I used the feedback feature to suggest adding the ability to hover over usernames for a preview of their profile, a la Twitter. Less than 24 hours later, @bevan has already implemented it. Amazing.

Absolutely. The unique selling point has to be more than just decentralisation & blockchain. That's enough for some of us but not for broader adoption.
Exactly.

So, how do you imagine we market dApps to people who don't know or care about decentralised technology?
They have to either do something better fundamentally (cheaper, faster, more secure, etc.) or offer something not possible with centralized alternatives. Then you focus your marketing on that.

Choosing an #iOS dApp browser for using Peepeth was an excerise in examining motives. #Toshi, now known as #CoinbaseWallet, is owned by @Coinbase, who also bought #Cipher. #Trust is great, but now owned by @Binance. So I Peep with Status.im aiming for decentralisation.
Haven't tried using Peepeth mobilely (is this a word yet?), but will probably go for Status as well. As much as I like Binance (and Coinbase, kind of), I'd rather use something not so tied to this kind of massive kind of influence.

Ah would love to visit Austin. Seems like a sincere belief in freedom is a strong value there, regardless of ideology. Great BBQ doesn't hurt either.

I haven’t deeply looked at IPFS, it seems great, but it is not based on any token, therefore what is the incentive to participate in the network and share your server in ipfs network?
IPFS is working on Filecoin, which incentivizes storing data for the network.

That sounds good. By the way, Ashton, we are connected now. You gave me my first Enso (which I had no idea what it was). This forced me to read up more on Peepeth and learn. So I give you one back in thanks. My first received and given!

Nothing so formal yet as PIPs. (FYI @bevan is the developer of Peepeth). Feel free to provide feedback (bottom right) or discuss in Peepeth. I like self tagging politics/nsfw as then other peepers can choose what they view/not view. Mute & follow will curate personal streams
Totally missed the "Feedback" button there. Nice feature. I'm more than cool with the politics/NSFW self-tagging, just think it should be toggleable. Going to go ahead and make use of that feedback button 👍

The social evolution will be decentralized. Even zuckerberg agrees peepeth has got a bigger bird compared to that of twitter's. And could this be a platform where i post a lot about crypto? I definitely think so.

What we need is some good ol' fashioned network effects. Speaking of--I know it's still waaay early but when do you think we might embark on a small advertising campaign for the platform? @bevan?
I'd chip in a few satoshis for a Reddit campaign.

Sure, I understand that. I'm not saying Peepeth isn't decentralized because it's moderated. Is there anything like a "Peepeth Improvement Protocol"? Could be interesting to let the users moderate themselves via voting on protocol changes.
Or moderation rules, rather.
Replying to @abcoathup (0x13ebd3443fa5575f0eb173e323d8419f7452cfb1)
Peepeth (client) has a code and is moderated according to that code https://peepeth.com/a/terms Decentralisation means that you can build on top of Peepeth data to create your own client which can be moderated or unmoderated.

Peepeth is microblogging with a soul. It’s about positivity, hence being moderated.
But how do you define "microblogging with a soul," let alone enforce whatever you believe that is? Seems antithetical to the whole point of decentralization to me.

Well he’s saying there’s still trust involved that you have to trust math but I see your point.
Fair point. I tend to see "trust" as meaning trust in other people.

@rdbilly By the way I've seen you railing against the "pol****s" spoiler tags. I also think this a bit ridiculous for a platform where much of the point is anti-censorship, at least as long as there's no option to turn it off. If you have Tampermonkey or an alternative...

Here’s a quote from the article #bitcoin #crypto #ethereum
I'm being pedantic but the "one feature that has never existed before" is trustlessness, not trust. Trust has existed forever.
Technology tends to obliterate restrictions rather than enable them. The internet, e.g., may have enabled the surveillance state, but it also created the means for unbreakable privacy. Post-politics is the way to freedom.

Sorry but I can't find one thread of evidence that this was ever said by MSN and my third party source has come up with nothing. Interesting notion but ultimately not based on facts. In reality the 21 million cap will remain..My bad.
No problem, thanks for looking.

It appears that MSN is reporting that the cap of 21 million Bitcoin will be removed in the future to allow the 'production' of more Bitcoin. This will never happen.
Link? My Googling skills are failing me.
