Pretty horrible. Though it depends if you already have tattoos and where you would put this one. Will anyone know what that means in 50 years. Will the kids know what python was?

haha i'm mostly joking. my biggest worry is that python/pandas won't stay relevant. might get it in a covert location if i get published though to celebrate

my friend stick and poked the emacs logo onto his arm which was pretty bold but he looks cool tbh

how horrible of a decision would it be for me to get "import pandas as pd" with syntax highlighting tatted on my body forever

absolutely! i just think the idea of individual ownership (i.e. owning your battleship) is embedded in automobile and the love for this leads to inordinate solutions to transit issues. autonomous self driving cars ubering everyone is cool, but we could also jus build more trains

i'd like to preface this with the fact that i don't have strong convictions on this issue.. but it's my 21st birthday and i'm a bit sauced and enjoy joshing online

Hmmm.... kinda depends on where you live. A train would do people very little good in a rural area. Autonomous cars don't discriminate based on population density. (Well... probably not perfect on dirt roads...)

anyone in the NYC area want to start a bodega coop that is run by smart contracts? as in smart contracts handle the administrative duties.

a big critique of unions/collectivism in general is that someone has to be the boss of them. what if that boss.... was a computer :o

we got a glimpse of the merit of a non-profit social media site when fb, reddit etc were all built with heaps of VC money. now as these companies roll out their monetization strategies, we suffer. the misaligned incentives on these sites are breaking our brains and dividing us.

went on a rant. but tldr:

individuals are too busy to care that their data is being collected and that won't motivate them to switch to a new platform.

a better message is that existing sites are inherently harmful and decentralized versions can provide better service to users

i think the crypto community shys away from this messaging because it unveils how the market is fundamentally unable to provide us the social media service we want.

it all comes down to the need for retention. on sites like youtube & fb, the need for retention feeds people radical content (shitty news, alex jones etc). on sites like tinder, the need for retention effectively withholds love from users to keep them on the app.

the fact that companies collect and sell your data, while disturbing, isn't enough to inspire people to seek out a better alternative as the effects aren't explicit. a more compelling argument is the misaligned incentives of centralized, profit driven communication platforms

i read the intro to "radical markets" bc it has "radical" in name

it presents a strong case for why capital corrupts, is poorly allocated, creates inequality etc.
